Hi, I was wondering if anyone has applied to the MGHIHP new Accelerated BSN program? If so, what do you think your chances are of being accepted?
hi everyone,I applied to the accelerated BSN at MGH for 2009. Does anyone know when we are supposed to find out if we got in? I'm so nervous! This is the only program i've applied to so far. I had to take all the prereqs and a lot of other programs require other prereqs so i can't apply anywhere else as of yet!
I also have applied. I emailed admissions last week and was told that they'd be sending out the letters in early January. They had about 450 applications in total.
It's going to be a hard wait!
Hi,
I applied to the MGH Accelerated Nursing program for May 2009. I am anxiously waiting for a reply from as I know that letters will be sent out soon.
I have a GPA of 2.95 and currently doing very well in my microbiology & human nutrition course at Umass Lowell.
Do you think my GPA is low for this program?
Thanks!
Any new updates from anyone regarding acceptance letters or phone calls for MGH's Accelerated BSN Spring '09? The anticipation is killing me! I've read such mixed responses -some saying within the next few days/next week and others saying early January. Do people think they might be sending out two rounds like they did last year? I keep checking the mail and waiting by the phone- it's driving me nuts. I really hope we know by Christmas time, if not sooner.
Also, is anyone else really concerned about the large number of applicants and the tiny number they are accepting? I feel like the chances are just so slim. I had an undergrad GPA of 3.9 from Regis College, graduated in the top 2% of my class, and have a 4.0 for my pre-reqs. However, I don't have much work experience, as I concentrated solely on my studies full-time as a traditional undergrad. I'm 23, just graduated this past May and have been working on finishing my pre-reqs since the day after graduation, so I haven't been able to work. I've noticed that a lot of people have quite a bit of work experience and life experience, especially in healthcare- which I wish I had.
I have a BA in Public Relations/Communication with a Management minor and don't have any experience in the healthcare field other than completing a Red Cross CNA course over the summer. I'm really worried that grades aren't going to count for much since I have limited experience compared to most people.
I've worked part-time as a nanny for a family of three the last few years, as well as a private figure skating coach. I've also volunteed as the assistant choreographer in my community's annual musical, and was the head writing tutor at my college, but that's about it- nothing to do with nursing. I did the usual activities as an undergrad- sang in the choir all four years, completed a PR internship, etc., but none of these are super impressive or related to healthcare, which I think is definitely going to kill me.
Are any others in a similar situation? I'm hoping my recommendations from professors and my essay will help, but I don't have a good feeling...we'll see I guess.
Best of luck to everyone; I know we're all a bundle of nerves at this point! If anyone hears anything, please post ASAP! Take care.
Hi Everyone,
I applied for the Accelerated BSN at MGH for May 2009 too! And I've been RUNNING to my mailbox every day after work as well! I've been trying my best not to think about the chances of being one of the 50 accepted out of the hundreds who applied! I'm in my late 20's, have an undergrad degree in psychology and one year of a masters program in acupuncture. I work as the clinic coordinator for the Developmental Pediatrics department in one of the big hospitals here in Boston. I've been working there for the past 6 years. I'm just praying that the combination of my work experience and grades will get me in the door. I've really busted my butt to make this happen. I live and breath for it these days :) I'm sure you all can relate! I'll be sure to post as soon as I hear anything at all. Good luck everyone! Hope to meet some of you in the summer (if I'm lucky)! Take care.
Thanks for the advice, Rookie! Hopefully we'll find out soon so I know if I definitely need to take the course or not.
It looks like people were notified last year around this time, but a few people have contacted the Admissions office and they've been saying early January. I've been trying to distract myself from thinking too much about it, but that's not working as well as I'd hoped, haha. Good luck everyone! I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :)
Just wanted to let people know that I heard one round of letters just went out and that another is supposed to go out around Jan 15 for the May 09 Accel BSN.
Although, I emailed yesterday and a woman from academic affairs replied today saying, "I believe we'll be sending letters end of December/beginning January- just after Christmas." ???
I don't know...just wanted to give people an update. If anyone hears ANYTHING, let us all know!

gRose55---I took the chem class online at umass lowell. It includes organic, i checked with the school and they said it was perfect for the requirement. It was also not very difficult, and i'm NOT good at chemistry lol I've taken all the prereqs in less then a year..very tricky, but can be done!
