MGH Direct-Entry Nursing 2014

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

I just sent in my application for MGH Direct-Entry Nursing 2014 and I was hoping to get in touch with other applicants. I applied for the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP. The wait is going to kill me! I'm wondering about other people's backgrounds (GPA, GRE scores, experience, etc.) and if anyone has an idea of who MGH accepts. Look forward to hearing from you!

They said we will hear anywhere between 8-10 weeks from the application due date (Dec 1) and that we will receive an email letting us know a decision is ready, then we will be able to login and see our decision. I'm so nervous! It looks like we will hear anytime between now and the second week of February..

Thanks, bostondrc! That's great info. Now I'm really starting to get excited..so soon!

I have a neighbor who works there and she said they will be emailing decisions on 2/1. I applied to the FNP program at MGH, Regis, Northeastern and BC. Already got in to NE & Regis but MGH is my first choice (I think:) My GPA was a 3.85 and about the same for prereq's. I did very mediocre on my GRE's but they seemed like more of a formality than anything. I can't stand the waiting either!!!

Hey all,

I am currently in a direct entry program for nursing and I went through the entire application process at this time last year. One of the girls in the year above me posted the approximate dates she received her acceptance letters to schools - I figured I would do the same! It may have changed from last year, but for those of you who are checking your email q 5 mins (q means every in nursing terms btw) like I was, maybe this will be helpful to you! It doesn't include every school because I didn't apply to everyone, but hopefully it will help a little...

Columbia University = February 6th

MGH = February 7th - we were sent an email the day before telling us our decision would be ready at midnight.

Boston College = February 14th - Best Valentines Day ever (you can guess which school I picked)

Vanderbilt = February 15th - they mailed the decisions so it actually arrived a week later, but I called and they told me over the phone because I was debating booking a flight to visit the school's open house

Northeastern = Mid April

I withdrew my application from Simmons and I didn't make it to the first round of interviews with Yale. I wanted to also give you guys some encouragement - I got into all those schools with a 3.25 GPA in biology and after having worked in a lab for 2 years. I had decent GRE scores, but every admission person told me those didn't matter than much. My class is pretty diverse, but for those concerned about GPA, don't sweat it too much - most of my classmates had 3.3-3.6 GPAs. If you don't get accepted anywhere - its not the end of the world, just the beginning of a different journey.

If you do get in - I totally recommend visiting the schools and talking with the heads of the department to which you have applied (adult health, womens health, etc) - It really helped me make my decision. Also, live it up this summer and invest in those friends/family members who will be incredibly supportive during the first year - I promise you will need them!

Keats717, thanks so much for your words of advice and encouragement!

Hey thanks Bostondrc for answering my q. I am so freaking out. No clue what to expect. No high expectations though.

I'm freaking out too. I check my email like every 2 minutes and I really need to know. I got waitlisted at my safety school so I am so nervous! What specialty did you apply for?

I applied to adult gero primarycare.

What about you. I only applied to neu and mgh. Still doing pre reqs. My top pref is mgh.

I applied to womens health. I applied to mgh, neu, regis, Vanderbilt, and Johns Hopkins. Was waitlisted at regis for early decision. I'm not sure of my preference now as I am just feeling discouraged

Oh. Dont be discouraged? Y? U will surely get in. Iv applied to two. I should be worried. I am just hoping for the best and prepared for the worst:) if not this time then ill try again for 2015. My gre was worthless. So far i have 2 science pre reqs with 4 gpa in them. My masters gpa was 3.29. I am doing 4 pre reqs nowadays. Have got no work experience here in healthcare in US.

My gres were not so great either. At least mgh didn't require them. Well hopefully we hear something soon!!
