They replied this morning saying that I should hear back by 4/1. UGH. I was hoping to hear from them before putting down the deposit for UMass Amherst.

Hello everyone,

I'm interested in applying for the 2022 cohort (specifically pmhnp). For those that were accepted, would you be able to list some of the details about your application, including personal statement, GPA, science GPA, background and letters of recommendation? Also, was this your first year applying or were you a wait list from the previous year? I'm trying to get a sense of what they're looking for.

For those that were wait listed, what were the same attributes of your application such as GPA, science GPA, statement, letters, etc.? I'm trying to get a sense of what they're looking for in all aspects. Also, once you were told you were wait listed, did they give you a number or at least tell you how many people were also on the wait list for the following year?

Thank you so much!

I was accepted for the pediatric track. It was my first year applying. Undergrad GPA was a 3.65. I took the prereqs post-graduation at a community College and GPA for that was a 3.9. Letters of recommendation came from two former employers. One was at a homeless shelter for women and children, the other was a substance use telehealth company. My personal statement was about my journey with substance use disorder and my recovery process. I detailed how my experience motivated my desire to become a PNP to help prevent substance use in vulnerable adolescents. Other details from my application include a lot of volunteer work--psychiatric units, general hospital volunteering, harm reduction street outreach with homeless, public speaking for local rotary club, etc. Also an LNA (CNA equivalent but in NH we call it LNA).

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi! I was accepted into the Women’s Health NP cohort for fall of ‘21. I’m finishing up my undergrad degree in Public Health this semester, so this was my first time applying. My current GPA is a 3.8. I have a CNA license but don’t have much clinical experience. Most of my experiences are in roles where I am an advocate and teacher, so I made sure to tie in all of these extracurricular experiences to the role of an NP and healthcare professional. My personal statement discussed how my own challenge with being diagnosed with endometriosis drive me to want to make changes and do better as a NP in this field. In addition to this, I used my public health background in a different essay to discuss systemic racism as the greatest challenge in healthcare, specifically citing disparities during this pandemic. I had a letter of rec from my employer with my peer teaching experience, the Dean of my school of public health through my involvement in the Dean’s Council at my school and a former anatomy professor who happens to be a NP and who I tutored students for during my undergrad career. I was really intimidated and experienced imposter syndrome while applying but I think everyone who has been admitted has various experiences, levels of clinical experience and strengths. The similarity across those admitted seems to be passion for being a NP. Good luck to you as you apply! You’ve got this!!

Hi! I was accepted for the AG Acute Care NP Program. This was my first time applying.

I got my degree in Political Science in 2018 and had a GPA of 3.1. My science GPA (all CC classes) was 3.9. I work at UCSF's Cancer Center, so I had my colleagues (one NP and one RN) write 2 letters of recommendation.

My personal statement focused primarily on my background as a queer person who came from a low-income, Mexican family and how that affected my family's health and my own perception of health care, which led me to wanting to empower patients. I also discussed my own abortion and how that inspired me to expand local abortion access at UC Berkeley and the state of California in the form of state legislation. I then discussed my role at UCSF where I work closely with complex cancer patients. I connected it back to my own background, wanting to empower patients, and using legislation to expand healthcare access. I expanded on what health equity meant to me and how intersectional identities can affect one's access to quality health care.

I hope this was helpful! Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need support! Best of luck! ?
