Anyone gotten an acceptance letter yet? If not when do you think the earliest that we'll hear?

NeNe25- Thanks for the info!! That makes me feel a little better! I've applied to several programs but haven't had any luck yet. Congrats on getting into another program!! Keep me posted if you hear anything else from MGH! Thanks!!

ROOKIE12 is there anyway to speak with you directly, I have a ? about the program....

Does anyone know when the program actually starts?? The website has no specific dates other than it starts in May. It's quickly approaching and I have yet to hear from them regarding my place on the waitlist..

I sent you a PM with my email, feel free to send me any questions!

it starts Monday May 10, but it is my understanding that they are not taking people off the wait list. Maybe that will change and I know that people heard right up to a day or so before that they were in.... so good luck!

Alvindudley- I hope you don't mind, but I sent you a PM =)

Hi ,

I am new to this site. I will be joining the ABSN class of 2011 on May 10. I have a question about the psych rotation, what should one expect ? This question is to rookie12 or alvindudley if you can just share your psych clinical rotation experience, I would really appreciate it.

Rookie12 and I did our psych rotation together and I think I can speak for both of us when I say it was a positive experience. Can you be a bit more specific with your question? We were part of a group that met from 2-9 PM at an acute psych setting at a hospital in metrowest. There was an ADULT UNIT, A GERI UNIT AND A CHILDREN'S UNIT. We got to spend time in 2 of the 3 units over the 13 weeks. It was an amazing experience and I learned a ton even though I had a fair amount of prior experience with folks with psych issues. We also had some lectures from wonderful clinicians from different disciplines--it was just terrific. I will tell you that everyone has different experiences with their placements at IHP throughout the program. Not every placement is wonderful--there is a human factor, and it is not always perfect. However you are there to learn and I can assure you that even if you don't love the placement, you WILL learn something from it. hope this helps. I will be speaking to the incoming class on the 10th--so please ask me questions on here and I will try to answer them on the 10th.... or before.

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to find out what exactly you had to do during the rotation in terms of patient interaction. Was it mostly observation or hands on? Was there personal care involved. In brief, what is a normal day on the psych rotation like? Thanks for your input.

oxojoyoxo2- did you hear anything yet??

I was on the child and geri units. On the child unit we spent a lot of time with the kids. We were encouraged to talk with them but never forced to take them and sit one on one. We participated in their daily group meetings (just listening pretty much). Lots of times we just played games with them, took walks, etc. and if there was an opportunity for therpeutic communication than we used it. On the geri unit, things were often crazy busy. We would do vitals, help with feeding, sit in on admissions. The other group on geri was asked to run an activity. This was my experience. I can tell you I was extremely nervous about this clinical and I was pleasantly surprised. While it wasn't my favorite and definitely not my specialty, I learned a lot. As Alvindudley mentioned everyone's experience is different depending on where you are/your instructor etc. I can't lie, not everyone had the great experience we had.

NeNe25- I haven't yet! Have you?!
