Hi Everyone,
I figured since every other cohort has started message boards about the application process it might be helpful to start one here as well! Has anyone applied to MGH for the January 2017 start In the accelerated nursing program? I've heard a lot of great things about the program and work with 5 nurses who have come from this program as well.
I figured we could all share our experiences and qualifications here.. Good luck to all! I'm so anxious, September can't come soon enough...
i would't worry too much about that.
for my cohort, the application deadline was 11/2, and i submitted my application late the night of 11/1.
everything was in except one recommendation. i had asked this person for a recommendation way back in august, and it's someone with whom I'm incredibly close. she said that she'd get it in and not to worry. she submitted it maybe 5 or 7 pm on 11/1, the day before the deadline. by this point, i'd already called my supervisor at work and asked her to write me one, because i was sure that my previous recommender wasn't going to get it in on time. and i got in :)
so, i wouldn't worry about that. if all your info was received and processed, then breathe. i had one pre-req in progress at the time, and although they say that you can have 1 outstanding pre-req the semester prior to matriculation, i was afraid that it would hurt me in the end if they had to compare me to someone equally like me on paper, but who had all pre-req's completed.
Guys, i know exactly how you all feel. My advice to you guys at this point is to let it go. it's out of your hands now. you've worked unbelievably hard in your classes and on your essays. you really want to become nurses. you've done all that is expected of you. try not to drive yourself crazy too much with the what-if's. if this is truly where you're meant to be, you will become a nurse. Breathe. You got this. You'll get there.
Sending good vibes to you all, and hope to see y'all soon!
I got that too! I had to do something because I am taking a pre-req in the Fall (even though I don't even know my acceptance/denial status) I still need to register for the class for multiple applications I have out there to other programs. I believe if all your pre-reqs are done, and you didnt take on over this summer, you dont need to do anything except wait and be patient :) They told me mid-august we would hear.. I really hope that is true!!
Hey, all. Hope that you're doing well. I believe that you guys should be hearing back from the IHP in a few weeks, the beginning of September. I just finished my first semester yesterday :). I'm currently on a three-week break, and definitely won't do anything related to school for the first week lol. again, feel free to message me on Facebook (Jessica Dalusma). Some of you already have. Good luck to you all, and I hope that I see some of you in January! I do have some advice, but I figured that I'd dole that out once admissions decisions are received. But if anyone wants it now, I'd be happy to disclose. You all seem so passionate, and I'm sure that you'll make fabulous nurses!
The ns510 class--"med surg"--is the main class. It's worth 6 credits. I studied every day without fail. It's tough at first because on exams, there'd be questions with 2 right answers, and you have to find which one is the "most" right. Our instructor said that we have to approach each question like this: "if I can only do one of these things for my patient in this situation, which would have the most impact?" It is overwhelming, but doable. When I think of where I was on the first day, and where I am now, I'm very proud. I still have a long way to go, though. You will learn so much. Also, you'll feel like giving up quite often:don't.
I felt like med-surg got 80% of my attention. Health assessment got 10%. Pathophysiology got 8%, and psych got 2%. The percentages might differ for each person, but I'm sure that for everyone, med-surg was THE class.
I just found this thread - thank you so much to everyone who has added to the discussion, I've learned so much! I just wanted to wish all of you good luck with your admissions decisions and send out some virtual high fives for all the hard work we've put into our applications and all the nervous waiting we've been doing. Go team!

I read on the website that one person from each incoming cohort gets a full tuition scholarship and two people from each cohort get a partial scholarship..
The waiting game is killing me more and more each day.. I feel as though I'm a decent candidate but I did submit my application the day of the deadline because I was waiting for my last recommendation letter to come through. That makes me even more nervous to hear!
