Hey again everyone,
Some of you that responded might remember I posted awhile back about a LPN job in a methadone clinic. I posted an update after I had went in for the interview. When I called them back after not hearing anything for a few days the director told me that they were unable to hire me because of a DUI I had gotten 27 years ago at the age of 18. To say I was taken aback by this would be an understatement.
Well how about this director calls me today and says while she doesn't have the part-time position that I had originally applied for available, she has a full-time position available if I am interested in it. So I reply, "I thought you said you could not hire me because of the DUI I got 27 years ago." Then she said.. "well that is no longer an issue". Yep I was shocked to say the least. She told me that she had "looked" at the date wrong and didn't realize it was so long ago! Really strange.
Anyhow the position is from 5:30 a.m until 1:30 p.m. Mon-Fri and every third Saturday. She said couldn't tell me how much the position starts off at until she "had a position to offer" as she put it, which I thought was weird since she is calling me. Is this normally how this stuff is done? I asked her what she needed me to do so I could know what the offer was, as I was not willing to accept anything without everything being up front and on the table. I was told there was some other paperwork I would need to fill out and I go in at 11 in the morning to do that. I really only wanted part-time because of school and my mom being with me, but at this point I really do need to go to work!
Have a great evening!

I don't know anything about methadone clinics, per se, but the whole situation does sound very strange.

This opportunity might be the highway paved with gold after having traveled the bumpy road to get there. Do you know what I mean?
You struggled to get licensed due to this old conviction on your record. You tried your luck with a couple of nursing homes but it didn't work out, and you have resolved to never return to LTC again. You've been unemployed for a brief period in time, and are still without work currently. In other words, you've traveled a very bumpy road to get to where you are today. The opportunity at the methadone clinic might be what the doctor ordered, regardless of the pay.
Good luck to you. I hope you find job satisfaction in nursing!
I sure hope you are right Commuter! I will be honest ... for me it isn't so much about pay right now as it is about being being happy where i work.
At this point in my life I need a job that isn't TOTAL stress. I am pretty much the total caregiver for a 85-year-old parent right now... Even though I would have it no other way... sometimes it is not easy. As long as it is even a remotely reasonable salary I would be willing to take it. At least it would get my foot in the door somewhere and get some very much needed experience on my resume!
Thanks for the words of encouragement and have a great day!

Hi Pegasus
I agree with what the commuter is saying. You deserve something good.
Please keep us informed.I work with drug addicts and alcoholics after they are discharged from detox.
I am interested in working in a methadone clinic. Please let me know how it goes.
Hey Debi,
Well I did go down today to fill out the "paperwork" she said I would need to do when she called yesterday... Know what it was? She wanted me to take a Math test lol. So I sit down and do that.. then she tells asks me when I can start... I asked when she needed me to start and she paused.. so I told her that next week would be the earliest since I will need to tie up a few loose ends around here before starting a full time job. Not to mention I need to get a set of tires on my SUV. I been putting it off for ages, but if I a going to be out driving that early in the morning definitely want to be on safe "rubber" if you know what I mean!.. I also told her I had another interview later this week lol. I just hope they will make me a decent offer. She told me I should hear from her later this week. I am trying to be nonchalant about it since I got let down last time. I sure hope the tides of luck are about to change for me though!
Have a wonderful evening!
Hi
I have a feeling the tides are turning for you.
Was the math test very hard? I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well.
Have a nice afternoon
Debi
Hey again Debi,
The math test was very easy actually. All you had to figure out was how many ml would you need for a certain dosage and you also had to add up these three columns of "fake dosages" and deduct them from the amount of methadone you had. She gave me a calculator that kept sticking over and over. I finally took out my little family dollar special calculator and used that one. I told her I would hate to fail this test because of this calculator lolol. I mean I understood exactly what needed to be figured out AND how to do it, but having to start adding the amounts over and over was beginning to make me nervous!
I hope it works out for me. I just hate to get let down again!
Have a great afternoon!
I am keeping my thoughts with you.
You need something good to happen. No more lets down, anything I can do let me know.
Have a great day
Debi,
Thank you so much for your words of kindness! I just got home while ago from getting my new set of tires and there was a message from the director of the methadone clinic on my machine, for me to call her. When I did however, I just got an answering machine. I can only assume they have gone for the day. I will call early in the morning and hopefully will have some good news to relay after that!
Well I did get the job. I start Monday:) Sure hope this turns out to be a place I stay for a while!
Have a great day!
Congratulations!
