Methadone clinic

Published

Hey again everyone,

Some of you that responded might remember I posted awhile back about a LPN job in a methadone clinic. I posted an update after I had went in for the interview. When I called them back after not hearing anything for a few days the director told me that they were unable to hire me because of a DUI I had gotten 27 years ago at the age of 18. To say I was taken aback by this would be an understatement.

Well how about this director calls me today and says while she doesn't have the part-time position that I had originally applied for available, she has a full-time position available if I am interested in it. So I reply, "I thought you said you could not hire me because of the DUI I got 27 years ago." Then she said.. "well that is no longer an issue". Yep I was shocked to say the least. She told me that she had "looked" at the date wrong and didn't realize it was so long ago! Really strange.

Anyhow the position is from 5:30 a.m until 1:30 p.m. Mon-Fri and every third Saturday. She said couldn't tell me how much the position starts off at until she "had a position to offer" as she put it, which I thought was weird since she is calling me. Is this normally how this stuff is done? I asked her what she needed me to do so I could know what the offer was, as I was not willing to accept anything without everything being up front and on the table. I was told there was some other paperwork I would need to fill out and I go in at 11 in the morning to do that. I really only wanted part-time because of school and my mom being with me, but at this point I really do need to go to work!

Have a great evening!

Congratulations I just saw that you got the job,YAHOO :lol2::lol2::yeah::yeah:

DEbi

Thank you so much commuter:) and Debi is strange but I kind of have a good feeling about this opportunity also. I told my mom while ago though as we were returning from picking my grandson up to spend the night that I am almost "scared" to be excited about it. I know that sounds pessimistic, but I swear after getting knocked on my hiney with those first two LTC positions I felt like such a failure.

I just want to find somewhere I can work, gain experience, and actually help folks.. since this was my intention when I became a nurse. I had a couple of people give me this sort of sneering look when I told them I had finally found something at a methadone clinic.....Like working with folks who have addictions is a bad thing or something. What they don't realize is the fact that it is VERY easy to get addicted to not only drugs but legal prescription medications, especially when you have chronic pain. Many of these folks that go to methadone clinics are every day people just like myself. They have families, they have jobs, and unfortunately they have addictions.

When I did medical transcription I saw a lot of people that became addicted. Frankly I couldn't help but be irritated at some of the doctors that gave these folks massive doses of substances then cut them off cold turkey. I felt really bad for them.

I am truly thankful that the only thing I am addicted to is carbohydrates LOL!!

I will let you know how it goes.

Hope you great evening!

Hi

I'm sure you will do fine at the Methadone Clinic. LTC can be brutal.

I also work with alcoholics and addicts, at a transitional program, which is a program they go to after detox. Usually they stay about 30 days and then move to a half way house, Sometimes I get those looks too. But like you said, they are people just like us. I have been working at this job since Mar 2008. I also work on Alzheimer unit. So 2 completely different type of jobs.

Have a nice day

DID YOU GET THE JOB!?!!!

OOPS, OH, i SEE YOU GOT IT, CONGRATS! GOOD LUCK

I sure did and thank you so much for congrats! I will be starting in the morning. I am so crossing my fingers this works well for me! It will be really nice to be gainfully employed again. My savings account will be mighty happy also LOL!

Have a great day!

I'm surprised that whole not hiring you due to a DUI over 20 years ago when some of their counselors you will find are former addicts. Not that it's a bad thing, but it proves that anyone can come around. Your DUI happened decades ago and you haven't had one since. I would say you're safe and good luck.

Thanks a bunch!... So far so good with the job. Actually it isn't bad at all other than getting used to getting up about 2 hours earlier than I normally did. The work is pretty easy, especially when all I have to compare it to was LTC!!

You are right about me being safe. I can promise you there will never be another DUI for this old girl! It only took the one time for me to wise up lol.

Have a great evening!

Well here is my update on the job at the methadone clinic. I started there on August 9th. I had actually applied for the part-time position, but ended up taking full time since that was all they had left. I was told I would get benefits after three months, which I really need since we don't have any. Everything went great the first week...the job isn't hard at all and the nurse they had train me is a wonderful woman. We get along great and I finally felt good about a job. She has only been there three months herself.

I should have known it had to be too good to be true:( After the first week the air conditioning went out in the part of the building we are in. We are shut in this room with no ventilation. It is close to 100 degrees outside so I am sure you can imagine what it has been like in this room. I literally became physically ill last week and couldn't even go to my class after I got off work one day. I told the supervisor repeatedly that I could not work like this... the heat was just unbearable. She said she called someone on Thursday of last week, but a part had to be ordered.. they supposedly came on on Monday of this week (after we nurses had left).. and yesterday we finally had air for the first time in days.. Then today the unit was frozen right back up again and the room smouldering. ( um.. frankly I think all they did was cut the unit off overnight and let it thaw out and it lasted yesterday until it froze up again.. I don't think anyone has even checked it)..The supervisor is now out of town for a week so I am sure nothing will be done:(

Then to make things even worse. I finally got a look at the "benefits" rates.... OMG they want $840 a month for my spouse and I!!! There is no way I can afford this. My god I had expected to pay a reasonable rate but sheesh.... So.... not sure what to do now. I am beginning to think someone is trying to tell me something and that I should give up on being a nurse! This is the third job I have tried:(

I hope everyone has a great evening!

oh my goodness! I sympathize about the heat prob! We had air condit. break down too for a week, went 3 days without window air cond put into dining room to move residents too...fans everywhere, but on top floor of building it was very hot! we had to run around with wet towels on our heads doing our job plus keep our residents safe from heat stroke! incredible! and no real thank you from CEO of company!!! when we did it well, and kept our residents alive and from going out to hospital! then a month later, it happened again! air condit went out....this time we had more help from supervisors to move critical residents downstairs to ground floor to community room for airconditioning and meals...hard to run back and forth with slow elevators with medcarts betw residents, and then after crisis was over, all we got was a thankyou letter from CEO.......never did see their actual faces and help!

Your situation sounds worse, get outta there, and don't give up!!!!
