metallic taste

Published

hi im taking my exam on july 28 i just got few question, what are those medication that cause metallic taste and what are the mgt, thanks hope you guys can help me..

This does not sound like the type of question that would be asked. Usually bad tasting medicine given with juice to mask the taste, as long as type of juice allowed.

yep what caliotter said

I got a question on the NCLEX about a drug (sorry forgot which one) & it asked about adverse reactions. One of the choices was metallic taste (I picked that answer). What I did to study meds was make a spreadsheet of drugs that I came across with practice questions & the most common adverse reactions/side effects. It forces you to look them up & know more than what's asked in the questions. Although I don't remember the drug, knowing the answer was "metallic taste" was visceral, very natural.

This won't help the OP much, but there are some drugs that cause a metallilc taste in the mouth -- not because the drugs themselves taste metalic, but as a side effect after the drug is taken. I had to take one for a couple of weeks last year and I hated it. It was one of those drugs for hyperactive bladder.

Fortunately, my bladder problems were temporary (a side effect from a BP drug) and I could stop taking both meds after a couple of weeks. I would hate to have to live with that horrible taste in my mouth for the rest of my life. No mints, mouthwash, etc. would get rid of it.
