Merritt College ADN 2011

Published

Hello All,

I was accepted to Merritt College's ADN program starting Fall/11 and wanted to know who else may be attending. Im really nervous about their program because of all the bad reviews. Is it just a matter of unhappy people are more likely to complain and there are people out there who are happy with the program? If anyone in the program has any advice id surely appreciate it. Thanks!

Vlady,

The school says its there but it is not, I called the site 888-666-7788, tell them the case, they will email you the forms immediately, also if you have not received the drug test email from them, ask about that as well, they will email it to you immediately. download the forms and fill them out, see the ones needed to be signed by your health care provider. once all forms are ready, scan them to your computer, then upload them to the site.

As for the CPR, I think that we need to show it when school starts. hope this helps!

It looks like just only we are doing these things. I called also, and they sent me forms, but take a look on your page, we are not able to upload them to the sait. We can do it with our immunization track, but that's all we can. I guess I should call again tomorrow. I think that we should show card at the first day of the class, but... Why did they say that we should have it done until August 1. The organization is terrible

Agelinayum, Im interested in seeing the material that you have as well. I'll probably be attending the nursing 100 class on the 20th as well. I'll be the 6'6" guy in the class. Kinda hard to miss me lol

Hey there... getting things done, got my books and going to start reading soon. I'll be attending the summer course on the 20th as well, hope to see you all there. Is agelinayum confirmed for a meeting place I would love to see what is in store for us and pick brains while I am at it.

So far I have downloaded all the forms and Ill update you with my progress... seems that it is a little confusing for some people.

I am registered with a AHA approved CPR class through Project Heartbeat in Oakland. I am already certified and yet because it is American Health Care Academy, I can't use it. ;| the class i have is 6/29 9-2.

Hoping that the summer enrichment course will enrich me rather than take away from valuable studying/reading time. I also hope that maybe we can get to know eachother a little bit and share some of eachother study tactics.

This is going to be a long tough road and we are going to be ready and rise above all the negative comments.

I, for one, didn't feel dissuaded about this program through Orientation, at this point nothing can dissuade me from my goal... this is what I have always been ready for and at no point did I think that it would be any easier. so, with that said... we are going to ROCK :rckn: and we will need eachother to lean on.

I really look forward to seeing your faces.

Guys, anyone know where to go for free/cheap physical exam? I don't have health insurance, I called the local public health center, they are charging $189 for the physical.

Knights of melta health clinic in Oakland offers free PPD test if you are not insured. (costs $45 at most sites)

Berkely free clinic offers free Tdap vaccine.

hi guys

i can't make do the merritt prep class because i am taking two courses over the summer already. i think it might be easiest to meet at merritt maybe reserve a room at the library. probably the end of june will work best for

me maybe the 23rd or 24th otherwise early july, but i will keep you posted. hopefully this will help get everyone off to a good start. i'm also interested in what's happening in the prep course, so we can exchange information. although in general for the semester i find larger study groups are too cumbersome, and inefficient. working in small groups of two and three has tended to work better for me.

For those of you who attended the Nursing 100 orientation, how was it? what is this course suppose to cover and how is it going to help with the nursing program?? please share as much as you can.

Hello ALL,

I have been reading this blog since being accepted to Merritt's ADN program for Fall 2011 and vowed not to post any comments or messages, but it seems as if this site is helpful in sharing important information regarding the program paperwork, etc.

I have a question and sent an email to the ADN staff but have yet to receive a response. Have any of you gotten your physicals yet... through Kaiser? My insurance is through Kaiser, so I had lab tests done a couple of days ago and am POSITIVE titer for two of the three MMR diseases. Measles I am BORDERLINE, so I understood that I needed to have the vaccine for MMR (again), BUT - do I need to have my blood re-drawn to prove POSITVE titer OR do I prove that I had the vaccine???? Does anyone know? I am asking because everyone at Kaiser seems to believe that I do not need to be re-tested as far as my blood work is concerned and it should be enough to prove that I received the vaccine.

Also, what do we do with our BLS card and all of the information that cannot be loaded into the Certified Background site? Do we hand deliver it to Merritt before August 1? Thank you in advance!

One more thing... I live in Brentwood and am looking to get a small study group of no more than 5 people (anything larger has proven unproductive). I would love to get together and study once the semester starts and continue through the program. I am willing to drive as far as Concord to meet. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks,

I DREAM RN...

If it says you need a titer then you need a titer. Luckily you did it in advance so you have time. My Dr. didn't think I would need it either but I'm glad I persisted. Last year we handed everything in in person, so I don't know about the other part.

Hi Angelinayum,

Thank you for the reply. Just for clarification and piece of mind, let me ask you this: When you say that your dr. didn't think you needed it either, but you insisted and are glad that you did... Does this mean that like me, you also had a negative or borderline titer result to MMR? I recently told my dr. that she WILL re-test me for measles, in which she agreed, but said to wait 30 days. I'm satisfied with her response. But now my concern is this: I'm scared that even though I've received the MMR vaccine for measles - being re-tested after 30 days, if I'll receive the POSITIVE titer result. Is this what you experienced as well? Apparently, Merritt is the only school that makes one get RE-TESTED to show the POSITIVE titer. I have friends who have gone to other RN schools and if they originally showed negative or borderline titer, all they had to do was prove that they received the vaccine... they didn't have to be re-tested. Thanks again for your response!

You need to have a vaccination as soon as possible. In about 30 days the antibodies will be developed in your blood, then you should check titers. Merritt asks only for titers except tetorifice and diphtheria. All your titers must be positive.

Yea I know merritt is weird that way. Yes I had a couple results which were neg, so I had to be retested. I think they gave it three weeks before they retested, and I was well in the positive at that point.

You put info about your BSL card on the list of Medical history that you have. You need to write the expiration date there
