Hey guys how do you handle visible tats where you work. I have a couple that can barely be seen and I want more. So how does your facility handle with it. Where I work we dont have an issue but i wont be here long and want to know what the outside world is like.

I've worked with a male nurse who had a tattoo on both of his upper arms and that was never an issue, though if it was on your wrists or in obvious sight there might be a problem there. I want one but on my back so no one will even know it's there.

At my hospital, ALL visible tattoo's must be covered.

I work in San Diego... In the heathcare industry... I'm not a nurse yet but I know plenty of them. The tides are changing when it comes to tattoos. I have tattoos and my tattooist tells me he has tattooed many nurses and in visible places. I have seen many healthcare workers with tattoos even MDs. I think the day when not having a tattoo will be the exception is near.

Some places require all tats to be covered. Some places require tats that could be considered offensive (whatever that means???) to be covered.

St. Pete, Florida...tats must be covered.

Guys with tats on their forearms usually where a long sleeved t-shirt type of shirt under their scrubs.....which I imagine is hot here in Florida.

I personally cannot wait to see all these heavily tattooed people as patients 30 years from now ... :D I mean can you really picture an 80 year old with a tribal band on his arm? Or another 80 year old with a tramp stamp on her lower back? It's going to happen ...

30 years from now... Tribal tattoo guys will be in their sixties... And trampstampers should be ripe cougars. Shouldn't be too bad to look at. LOL.

Now... 50 years from now they'll be in their 80s.

Todays ink is much better than you see on your Korean war vet today. The ink now barely fades which means tattoos will remain as cool as ever even if the body isn't.

I'm looking into becoming an rn and I have two tats on my hands. one is an X because I'm straight edge and the other is a japanese style lotus. Heres my question.

Can you wear colored latex gloves so they arent showing or can I get some of that tattoo coverup makeup by Kat Von D???

Probably make up is your best bet... Most hospitals have one kind of gloves they use. Wether it's blue or purple or clear is up to them. I've never seen anyone wearing gloves that are different than the ones issued by the hospital.

One of the guys I work with just wears coolmax shirts by underarmour. he does have tattoos covering one of his arms, but keeps it professional and covered at work. good thing I think!
