Hi Everyone,
I am a new grad RN and MSKCC has contacted me to meet for an interview. I believe she was a recruiter from HR and not a manager. I have no idea what kind of questions are going to be asked. Will she ask me oncology topics aside from the general questions? Also, what kind of behavioral questions do they usually ask? Greatly appreciated for your responses everyone! I'm so excited ...and nervous!
congrats on getting your interview!
if you are interviewing with the recruiter and not nurse manager, they ask you the typical general questions. Most questions arise straight from looking at your resume.
-tell me about yourself
-strength & weakneses
-why did you become a nurse
-how do you handle conflict and stress
just make sure everything you say, u have examples to back it up.
good luck! :)
When you interview at a facility of that caliber you will need to be on your game because they are a facility where a lot of people what to work so they can pick and choose.
1. Dress in a VERY professional manner. Black or navy suit and cover any tats that you have.
2. Read everything you can about the facility so you know the history of the facility and what services they currently offer.
3. Know what your strengths are. They will ask you this.
4. Know what areas you need to improve on.
5. Follow up that interview within one week with a thank you card.
6. Know what customer service is. Most hospitals now follow the work of Quent Studer so look him up and read about him and his teachings. I bet this is what they use.
Good luck
I can help you as well, as I recently (last week) accepted a job at MSK so am quite familiar with the interview process! Just PM me any questions that you have. Best of luck to you!
Dear Micu,
i have an interview with a sloan kettering nurse manager/leader tomorrow (i already met with the HR lady) and i was wondering if you know of any specific questions or topics she would ask me besides for the usual strengths/weaknesses etc...?? im a new grad and do not have any experience with cancer patients in particular...
thanks!!
I'm a May grad as well. I gave them my resume in December at a career fair, and then I emailed the nurse recruitment rep I had been in contact before as an extern and she said to email her my resume in a month (where did my resume go before...?) and I finally interviewed on 5/10. It was basically a 5-minute interview followed by the interviewer telling me the great benefits of working there (and they are GOOD). Then she told me they're basically not hiring, new grad positions are extremely limited, and I'll be contacted if suitable spots open up. I followed up with a phone call a few weeks later, with the same response.
So question to all those who got positions -- were you May grads or December/prior?
Hi theviv,
I submitted my resume with no direct contacts I was never able to drum one up. I did callt he nuse recruitment office and they said I would hear from a recruiter they were interested. Would you be interested in sharing a contact e-mail for the recruiter you went through? Thanks and best of luck. It is a frustrating time to be doing this!!
