I applied to the Memorial Hermann GN Internship for Spring 2010. I was wondering if anyone has gotten an interview or at least an email confirmation that they received you application. I faxed mine in and I have not received a confirmation email yet.I wish you could apply to all of the facilities. I applied to the Katy and Woodlands sites.
Also the application had a troubling line in it.
"Your packet will be reviewed by the facilities you listed if they have a need for interns." I added the italics for emphasis
Looking back I should have called and made sure the two facilities I indicated were hiring. Do they do this (allow you to apply to facilities not hiring) as a way of eliminating applications? Any info anyone has about the internship would be great. Also I live out of state. Would I do a phone interview or fly there?
Thanks in advance
Congratulations! That sounds like a really amazing opportunity.
I just got offered a NICU internship position, and I accepted it! I know how incredibly lucky I am to be starting off in my 1st choice specialty. I still can't believe it.
I wish you all the best in your career!

Just go to the link listed above, and there will be instructions on how to apply. You just have to check it everyday and see when they start accepting applications. I applied last September for the January 2010 internship. I never heard anything back though. I would recommend being very persistent with the nurse recruiters to let them know how interested you are.
I started as a GN at Memorial Hermann as GN in November 2009-- it is a good program-- I have to work nights and every weekend AND holiday for a year though! I was so desperate I accepted those conditions whereas other people in the internship refused those conditions and the nurse manager accepted it. It also depends on the floor you will be working--I was hired for SICU.. I actually like working weekends so far because I dont have any traffic on the way to work! It is a steep learning curve , but I am loving i! and the best part is I didnt have to take the only other job offer I got which was in San Antonio !!
Good luck

WHAT?!?! Weekenders get paid a lot more and .. it's not fair for you to be working all the weekends and holidays. If you JUST do weekends, you just work weekend holidays and Christmas or NY. Please tell me you don't do weekdays, too! What is weird about this is you have to have 2 years exp before you can be on the weekend program and this is a systemwide requirement - not unit specific.
To apply for the internship program will be posted for Hermann about 4-5 months before you graduate. The same with other hospitals. Hermann gave me the shake n bake when I applied to their program this past fall to start this January. But, luckly I got on somewhere I liked better. A lot of my classmates who did get hired initially chose not to sign contracts with Hermann due to various reasons and accepted employment elsewhere. I don't know what's going on over there or what it says in that contract but there where more than a few in my class who turned Hermann down.
I'm a new grad/intern also and my schedule is every other weekend just like the other nurses in my area which is reasonable imho. Holidays are rotating based on seniority but we should have at least 1 off.
It IS hard to get hired as a new nurse right now and competition is steep. At my hospital system over 300 applied for the program, 150 or so interviewed and only 38 people were selected. I applied at nearly every hospital in town and interviewed 8 times and luckily ended up with a position but, a good number of my classmates are still looking. With each hospital accepting so few the competition is FIERCE.
