World Registration

Published

Hey guys, I am looking for our classmates at IHNA Melbourne, Feb intake. You can PM me. So far I know 2 other classmates already.

Why is AHPRA asking for your CPDs? Is it true that you wouldn't have to if you're currently employed? Thanks!

No it's not true. Review the AHPRA form so you will know that it's really required. And it's already confirmed by AHPRA through my online enquiries.

When did you send your application? I'll check their website, thank you.

Hi cynthia. All answers are here below. This is AHPRA's reply when I asked about CPDs for overseas applicants.

"Thank you for your recent enquiry to AHPRA.

Yes, this will be applicable to you if you are currently holding registration within your Country. Therefore you must show that you have competed 20 hours within the last 12 months. This may include competition of a course or courses, the CPD must be relevant to the nurse or midwife’s context of practice, documentation of self-directed CPD must include dates, a brief description of the outcomes, and the

number of hours spent in each activity. All evidence should be verified. It must demonstrate that the nurse or midwife has:

a) identified and prioritised their learning needs, based on an evaluation of their practice against the relevant competency or professional practice standards

b) developed a learning plan based on identified learning needs

c) participated in effective learning activities relevant to their learning needs

d) reflected on the value of the learning activities or the effect that participation will have on their practice."

And when I asked if I can use my CPDs at iFolio:

"Thank you for your enquiry.

Regarding your CPD documentation, as you are required to keep record of these documents you may provide them in any way you deem appropriate."

CPD's can be in the form of seminars especially those we call here "CEUs" held by private hospitals every month, which I don't have plenty of so I have no CPDs to submit but the self directed learning units documented in iFolio.

How did AHPRA ask for your CPDs? And may I know what are the other requirements that you lack?

aphra asked me to submit CPD- please provide certified evidence of your CPD...... CPD involves reviewing practice, identifying learning needs, planning and participating in relevant learning activities, andreflecting on the value of those activities. thru the letter they sent me due to incomplete requirements.

i have seminars attended - seminars where in speakers talk then after they asked questions if the audience have inquiries or clarifications. just like that. i have certificates.is this enouch i will just enumerate it?

i need to revise my CV and need to submit again good moral standing from PRC and one from my college clarifying a subject.

can i see a sample of your CPD?

to all those who already passed aphra's assessment and already bound to go to aus- can i ask anyone of you if you can show/ give a sample of your CVs and CPD records that you passed to aphra! please please please!!!

When did you send your application? I'll check their website, thank you.

Every Health professional registered with AHPRA is required to do Continuing professional development every year...how much depends on what profession.

Nursing is 20 cpd hours a year, whether you are working or not......every professional is to be keeping up with their profession, assessing their skills, assessment attending courses, reading journals, networking. Its considered part of being a Health Professional.

You need to download the word document and fill it in for cpd requirements.

can i just put the seminar title on the learning needs then on the activity column would be the talk of the speaker then on the evaluation/reflection would be the clarification or the question and answer portion of the seminars? each seminars took 8-12 that would be 4 hours? would that be right?

No, your learning needs, if you find you can attend a diabetes info session, you put in your learning needs are to have further education on diabetes management.

In the activity is what you did - attend a diabetes info session, run by blah blah at blah blah on this date.

Reflection is what you gained from the infor session IE: session informed me on insulin management and types of insulin available and oral medications for people with type 2 diabetes.

Then hours are whatever time it took....though I would not put in too many big hours, just short times of 3-4 hours.

For example

JOURNALS:

Learning needs: Require uptodate knowledge of cardiac catheter blah blah

ACTIVITY: Article in cardiac care for nurses volume 5, article 34, recent developments

REFLECTION: the cardiac catheter blah blah is considered when cardiac myopathy is present and to be changed regularly, according to manufacturers every 2-3 weeks, hospital protocol is every 2 weeks.

CPD: 1 hour.

I agree completely. We have seminars and updates provided by the hospital, monthly journal reading and discussions during unit meetings; all of which I consider part of CPD. I am only concerned that there is no tangible proof of the CPD, such as certificates and etc. There's a huge possibility that AHPRA will be requiring attachments as evidence. Anyway, thank you for the link.
