Medical Terminology Course before A&P??

Published

Hi All,

I was wondering, would taking a medical terminology course help prepare for A&P and Microbiology?

thanks in advance!

What are you doing to prepare for these two courses in particular?

It won't prepare you much but at the same time it can't hurt! Most of the med term that was taught in my A&P class was condensed in the first two weeks then after that it was all new material! Knowing the different terms for directions and quadrants was useful. Some of the material from Med Term was useful when I took my CNA class and on some job applications it asks if you have taken a Med Term class so in that sense it was useful. Sorry for giving a conflicting answer!

No! This is great stuff  Thanks! I am just trying to brush up on some terms in the fall (pretty much as a filler course) to prepare for A&P in the spring. And you're absolutely correct, they do tend to as if this was taken on job applications.

I would take it... I took medical terminology after A&P1 and before I am taking A&P2 this semester and I think it will just help things to be a little clearer when reading the material or taking a test.

My school requires a Medical Terminology class. I took it with A&P2 this summer and finished the class with a grade of 102%. We had 2 weeks to study 3-4 chapters on our own and then we had a scheduled time to go to school to take the test. I spent maybe 20 minutes a day studying. I'm surprised all nursing programs don't require it.

I took my Med Term before any bio classes. I found it to be helpful in each and everyone of the bio classes. But it was helpful in terms of understanding more difficult words we learned and also body positions, different diseases or symptoms, organs... ect.

I've never taken medical terminology. However, I did get an A in A&P. Extra classes never hurt; but I don't think it is necessary.
