Do you have any thoughts to share on the topic?

its illegal and isnt done. Not much to discuss. Google HIPAA.

advantages: in case of emergency, the information is at your fingertips.

it's handy...

disadvantages: the patient may try to change something (drug orders), his relatives/visitors could peep at it while he sleeps, the patient may try to read it and get the wrong information and become agitated...

------off the top of my head.

Where do they still do this? I can't think of any advantages to this practice @ all..anyone could saunter in the pt's room & read their medical history.

Its not done anywhere AFAIK...Thats Old school lol any Hospital that did this would go bankrupt in 1 week from all the lawsuits.

Where I'm at pts have to get permission from medical records to even look at their own charts...can't imagine the legality in being able to access it at anytime at the end of your bed
