Med Surg I during a summer session

Hi:

I am trying to expedite the time that I will be in school and have found that my school offers Med Surg I during a summer semester........does anyone have any comments, advice, etc. with regards to taking a med surg I class during a summer session..........I also will follow that up with a med surg II class during the next regular semester so although I may not retain as much as I would during a regular semester due to summer classes being 6 weeks long, wouldn't I be able to "catch up" during med surg II???

I am a good student and am taking the fundamentals courses now. Also I have no children or any other things that would distract from my concentrating totally on the class.

...And if anyone has done a summer session of med surg I, can you tell me if you would do it again or not and why.

Thanks!!!

Carla

I had Med/Surg I this past semester along with Peds. 6 weeks each. It wasn't any more difficult than other semesters. Go for it!

Thanks Jen!

I think that I will.........otherwise, instead of graduating in May 2006, it will end up being 2007.......

:)

Jen- out of curiousity, what does your school study in your 5th semester??? In my ADN program we just finished up Psychiatric and Mental health nursing and are doing some chronic illness, oncology, orthopedics, burns, etc. Is the 5th community nursing? Just curious! Thanks!

ps. i am not responsible for my spelling at this hour!

Hi,

My 5th semester consists of community nursing and leadership. Part of leadership clinicals is 6 weeks with a preceptor hopefully in a unit that you are interested in working. I am scheduled to be in ED but am trying to switch with someone that is scheduled OB.

Cool thanks! Thats probably the one thing we miss out on in our ADN program. Although I'd much rather graduate than spend another semester stuck in the library!!! Good luck with everything!!!
