How many questions and how long do you get?

With ANCC, you get 3.5 hours and 175 questions. 25 of those questions are not scored.

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure which one I'm taking yet, but at least I have a time frame. Ick on that many questions though. Oh well, hopefully it won't take 3.5 hrs!!

How are you studying for this? Any sites/books you can recommend with advice?

I'm taking a class paid for by the hospital and offered through the local Univ. It's a 10 week class. They say that 90% of the nurses that take it pass. I hope I'm not the 10%. There are two books they recommend buying. Both are really good, so worth the money.

I just got the CMSRN - I took the computer test so it was 150 questions and 3 hours... I reviewed with a med/surg questions book and a med/surg certification review book and that was all. The test could have been much worse, i didn't find it too bad at all.. Good luck!

Oh congrats!:yeah: That is what I'm studying for. I start classes next month and am so paranoid that I will fail this test! I have the books and am starting at Osmosis, of all things.:uhoh3: I haven't look at that stuff for years!

Any tips, tricks or anything to really focus on?

A 10 week class is ridiculous, all you need is a review book and the CD to practice questions, it was mostly common sense questions.

I didn't study at all and passed easily. You will do fine :)

Well, its very intensive and good. I'm looking forward to it. It's paid for by the hospital and I get paid for going. We stop at Starbucks along the way and I go with a co-worker/friend. I also get 50 ceu's out of the deal. :yeah:

I can deal with 3 hrs once a week for 10 weeks.;) Extra cash before xmas too!

Hi all,

What resources are out there to use to study for the med-surg exam? I am so nervous about it and I feel as if I need to go over my entire med surg book to be prepared. I bought a book from ANCC called Medical Surgical Nurse 2nd edition and I am not even sure if this is the book to help with the certification. It is think and had about 1000 pages. Someone mentioned a CD. I would love to have that to help me especially when I am driving. Please help. Thanks

We are using the AMSN core curriculum for Med/Surg nursing and another book called Springhouse review. Med/Surgical nursing certification, both 4th edition. You can find them on the AMSN website. The class I'm taking has pages they want us to read. I can pm them to you if you want, just let me know. We also have lectures, but the reading is pretty indepth.
