NURSING INFORMATICS
Thanks for your reply. I would love to do analyzing workflows as opposed to coding and compliance. I have been a bit concerned about doing the program at WGU because they do not have a hands on clinical component where you get to work with a nurse informaticist during the capstone. I was hoping to get good hands on experience especially seeing that I do not have a job in that field as yet. How did you feel about not having that component.

NURSING INFORMATICS
I am a BSN prepared nurse with an interest in nursing informatics. I am not sure whether I should do nursing informatics or healthcare informatics. I am not sure what the difference is and if there are any limitations with either. I would one day like to be able to be a builder as an nurse nformaticist. In addition, my other dilema is choosing a school. I have looked at schools from western governers university (wgu) all the way to vanderbuilt. Any suggestions on schools that they had good experiences with and were not very expensive. I am not sure about wguis it accredited and will I get a job if I graduated from there. Please share tour thoughts. Thanks in advance for all responses.

Nursing Informatics OR Healthcare informatics????
I am trying to make a decision. Nursing informatics OR healthcare informatics. Which will make me more marketable and pay more. Any suggestions on schools. I currently live in Texas and Texas has only one Nursing informatics program at Texas Tech university. There is another one in Houston but it is non-nursing. For all of the nurses who have done nursing informatics would you still decide to do nursing informatics of healthcare informatics? I am torn!!!!!

Masters in Nursing-administration
I too have the same decisions to make about nursing management/np.mthe funny thing is that I don't want to do management to be a nurse manager because I don't like that area but I am thinking about this program to get me into something like quality assurance /improvement to include helping develop policies and procedures, evidence based nursing, magnet standards and informatics. There is a program at the university of Colorado called iLEAD that seems to be interesting. Has anyone done this program. Please suggest your opinions thanks.

Careers after nursing: Nursing as a springboard to...what?
Hello, I too have similar crossroads in my nursing career. I once wanted to do CRNA but I don't think that I will like the ICU. Then I decided to try the NP route but scared of the litigations. So now I am thinking of doing a maters in nursing which has to do with health care systems, management, quality assurance etc. the majority of the program seem to be geared towards management and I don't think I have it within me to be a unit manager. But one think I would not mind doing is the quality assurance/improvement aspect, informatics and then to be able to, ONE DAY, go into research. But so unsure if this is where I want to be. My last passion was to do geriatric NP because I could see myself with the undeserved population but I have time contraints in my life right now with my husband prepping for med school.SOMEONE HELP!. If you have any suggestions please offer. My concern with doing the management type problem is having to wait for until I get something that I like. As the previous guy mentioned, usually these informatics and quality assurance jobs there are only 1-2 needs in the hospital. Whereas With the np you no exactly what u want and the chance of getting a job right in your area is greater. HELP!!!!

Hi all, What resources are out there to use to study for the med-surg exam? I am so nervous about it and I feel as if I need to go over my entire med surg book to be prepared. I bought a book from ANCC called Medical Surgical Nurse 2nd edition and I am not even sure if this is the book to help with the certification. It is think and had about 1000 pages. Someone mentioned a CD. I would love to have that to help me especially when I am driving. Please help. Thanks

NO LUNCH? NO BREAKS? Is that common in nursing?
Can anyone share what their unit does to encourage meal breaks. It is about time that we implement this and maintain this culture on our unit so that they nurse can be happier. Thanks.
