Me Again-Can You Help Me W/ Contractions?

Hi! Brief summary-as some know, I was having pressure and other things going on but when I went to the office on Tuesday for exam, cervix closed and everything fine.

Friday night/Saturday morning I was having pressure again but with a clear discharge with a little bit of pink blood...called, was seen-told not really having contractions but was dilated 1 cm and some effacing. Told to go home, probably just b/c it is a second pregnancy and to call if I have regular contractions or my water breaks.

Tonight (Sunday)-lost more of my plug (been falling out for the past week little by little-which I know is no indicator) but behind it was more blood. Little bit more than last time, but none since then. So I am trying to find out if I am having contractions b/c the pressure is back and I feel a little menstrual.

The problem is I am not sure what I am looking for. My stomach keeps tightening, but I know it could be the baby moving and my stomach tightens all the time, especially when I change position...so how can I tell it is a contraction this early? (32 weeks)

Thanks for any tips!

hi,

Just wondering how you got on yesterday???

I hope all is ok

You state you have to call before going in, that is not true, if you feel like you need to be seen for possible preterm labor go to the ER. EMTALA- they have to assess and treat you. Your baby is too early to be born. I always tell my pts if they are having more than 4-6 ctx an hour they need to be examined, it is always better to be safe than sorry. If you have had VE they can sometimes cause some spotting.

Well I called the office yesterday and they once again told me that it was all nothing and not to bother coming in unless regular contractions or water breaks. I was so angry! But as of today, no baby trying to pop out yet, so maybe they are right and I am just being a freak.

I have another question though, if you don't mind-I know the mucous plug holds no significance and I have lost mine over the course of the past week. Now until now, it was pink and brown...normal. Today I had nothing & then I felt something weird in my drawers and it was more really thick stuff. Not really white, not really brown and pink anymore. I am starting to notice that when this stuff comes out-that is also when the pressure and discomfort all begin again...why? Is there a correlation that I should keep an eye on?

Thank you so much everyone for all of your help with this. I feel so lonely b/c even though I am not telling the doctors what they want to hear, I really have this feeling of "calm before the storm" going on. Yet, nobody will take me seriously. Thanks again!

PLEASE GO TO THE ER!

I just wanted to thank everyone again for their input and thoughts! I appreciate it-I am not going to give up on making them listen to me & in the meantime, it is comforting to have the knowledge that I can go to the ER and be treated without dealing with them.

Thank you all so much!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! I went up again this evening because I was still having many different things. They told me to stop bothering them unless I am filling a pad or my water breaks. This Dr. also told me that I was not dilated at all. So, I give up. Either they are right and nothing is going to happen or I am right and that will be obvious when the baby comes early.

Thanks again everyone! I appreciate all your help!

Hang in there hon and stay in touch {{{{{{{{{{{{{{Faith}}}}}}}}}}}

Your cervix at 32 weeks shouldnt be effacing or dilating. You should be long thick and closed.... or definitely NOT having cervical changes at this point or losing your plug. I would for sure go to L&D for monitoring and have a fFN test done. This can tell if you have a chance of delivering withing the next 10-14 days with about 99% accuracy. Please let us know how it turns out!

ummmmm....go to L&D...insist they put you on the monitor for a bit since this situation has been persisting for you. don't be crabby...just reinforce in the nurses mind what you have been telling us here.

Sounds to me, only from what you've said, that you could be beginning preterm labor. I can't diagnose you from miles away, but it seems you've got more going on than "meets the eye".

Thank you very, very much! I am already calling the office in the morning for other things mentioned in my other thread & I am going to demand to have this done.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! It is so reassuring to know there is an actual test I can have done...some peace of mind would be nice!

fFN is fetal fibronectin. Not all hospitals use it but some do. you cant use it if youve had intercourse within 48 hrs so make sure there is no hanky panky!

Just remember fFN is only a TOOL. It's not always too accurate in properly predicting PTL in some people. You can't overrule the common sense of going to the doctor when you feel s/s of early or preterm labor.
