MDE Columbia University 2021

Published

Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

I was waitlisted for the MDE program, so I emailed admissions asking what about my application went into that decision and if there is anything I can do to improve my standing as an applicant. Jose from admissions reached out and set up a meeting with me to go over the decision this week, so if anyone else is in the same spot as me and wants to know why you got rejected/waitlisted, it seems as though admissions is more than willing to meet with you! ??

I was rejected and emailed him. He told me to reach out in July to set up a meeting LOL. In July...like no thank you.

ARE YOU KIDDING *** I had no idea. I'm so sorry! That is ridiculous of them. They can't find a 30 min block of time in the next few weeks to meet...wow... I mean really, July?!

Its honestly ridiculous. I was thinking that July is basically when the 2022 application opens, so he must want to speak in July to see if I would want to apply for 2022. I am not even going to waste my time or even apply for the next cycle LOL. Im already waiting on two schools. I'll probably apply for the BSN-DNP later on. Hopefully things won't be as hectic as they are now with their "influx of applications"

I emailed them and he said to reach out after June ? doesn’t seem like it’s looking so good for me haa

Someone on the waitlist gonna be happy this week. I am going to cancel my acceptance because I got accepted into my desired program! Sad to see my $500 gone but I am glad that Columbia was able to give me some relief over the past few months :’)

Are you planning to reapply with the feedback he gives you?

Chances are, no. My goal is to start nursing school ASAP no matter where I go, so considering I've gotten into JHU, I would definitely go there over reapplying to Columbia next round. Columbia isn't my #1 school but I really thought I would get in, so I actually want to know what about my application wasn't good enough for them. My biggest fear is waiting until the next cycle to apply with the false sense of hope that I'll be accepted and then ending up getting rejected and having to wait even longer to start my nursing career. I just genuinely want to know what I can do to improve my application, considering I was also waitlisted at my #1 school.

Congrats on getting into your top choice! What school will you be going to?

Thank you! I am going for UCLA MECN program. I figure I will learn better in a smaller cohort and the fact that they also offer research opportunity is a BIG PLUS for me. This is personal, but I have been pretty disappointed with the way CUSON handle their communication (as shown by other people experience). I truly appreciate how wholesome UCLA program and staff is! I thought private school would treat their students better than public school, but I was so wrong ?

Has anyone been notified that they were admitted off the waitlist? I am still deciding between Duke and Mass General's program, but knowing more about moving off the waitlist would be nice. Thanks!

hi! nothing yet! I emailed CUSON and asked for a general timeline/ballpark of when waitlisted students might hear back and I was told mid-April! hope this helps
