I know how you both feel, I was waitlisted for Penn, which was my #1 choice so I'm pretty beat up right now.  I hope it helps to know that different programs look for different types of students! It also seems like Penn has a much smaller cohort for their ABSN program than Columbia has for its MDE program. I'm right there with you guys though, let's try to keep our hopes up ❤️

Don't feel discouraged. I agree w/ Amanda12, different schools look for different types of candidates. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that we hear from them soon. ?

Question: did you all apply to other programs as well?

I am going to start applying to NYU Mercy Pace their deadlines are all march 1st.

Do you know of any other good accelerated nursing programs?

I applied to schools in Chicago area, California, and Maryland on top of Columbia. I think Rush University is a good school too, from what I heard. I got waitlisted at Johns Hopkins. But a lot of the programs are not direct to a doctorate or Nurse Practitioner. That’s why I’m eyeing Columbia because of the possibility of MDE to DNP. The only other school that I applied to that I know has a program that goes straight to NP is Samuel Merritt in Northern California.

Hey! Has anyone heard back from the admissions office yet about decision letters?

I know they also mentioned something about virtual meetings to hold sessions for us to ask any questions. Has anyone heard back regarding that as well?

Thanks!

Hey, they’ve responded to inquiries about admissions decisions pretty vaguely - expected to be released early to mid February is all they’re saying.

To any current MDE students! - exactly how big is the cohort? I have heard 200 but then have also heard 250

Ours started at 208 I believe and now I think it’s about 193. Some classes, like patho 1 and 2 are closer to 250+ because there’s lateral DNP students (RNs who went to school elsewhere) taking it with us as part of their program.

Hi,

This question is for current MDE students.  I applied for the MDE program but would like to continue on to receive a DNP after getting my masters. The CUSON website says that there is a seamless transition from the MDE to the DNP program.  Is this "seamless transition" just for students who applied for the MDE/DNP program.  If so, what would the process be for applying for a DNP while in the MDE program. Thank you in advance for your advice.

They open up applications in the Winter of MDE for current students to apply to the DNP and to allow any current seamless MDE-DNP students to switch specialties (e.g. some will have gotten accepted MDE-Pediatric NP and will decide after some experience they’d rather do Family). It’s a pretty straightforward application and as long as you’re in good standing you shouldn’t have a problem getting into DNP. Some of the DNP cohorts are smaller, acute care and midwifery for example, so those can be a bit more competitive to apply to.

you get a bit of a $$$ break if you go straight from MDE to DNP, I think it’s like $40k cheaper, rather than doing MDE, leaving to go work or whatever, and then applying to DNP later.
