MDC Nursing spring 2014

Published

So I'm starting the post for Spring 2014. I'm currently waiting for my acceptance letter for fall term but just in case applying for spring is my back up plan.

So my GPA is 3.0 and my teas is 72 giving me a score around 73.

Since I didn't get a first round email for fall I'm thinking of retaking my teas test so if anyone is willing to study with me please let me know. Good luck to everyone applying for spring!!

Ok, so today totally sucked! I signed in at the medical campus wellness center at 9:50am. I went in for my results (I had gotten my second PPD on friday of last week). After waiting until 12:25pm (I'm not even exaggerating, I waited that long!!!), I got called in. While getting examined by the doctor, he asked me when I went in for the second PPD and I said friday. He then started ranting about how it was possible that I was the 4th person that day that had gone in on friday for their 2nd PPD and the results weren't in the system. He asked me about friday and I told him what happened: the girl called the 2nd PPD people in the back, did the test and wrote on which arm the second test was performed...and that was all. He asked me if she examined my arm for the results of the 1st PPD, and I said the truth...she didn't. As a result, I have to get another PPD test because the doctor refused to sign my result papers. I honestly had no idea about the details of the test and how time sensitive it was but, as the conversation proceeded, I knew I could lie and make my life easier...but I didn't...should I have lied?

One other thing is bothering me...when I asked about the TB vaccine I was told that I would only get that should my immune system is compromised. Along with my failed PPD results, I got my blood-work back. They told me that I don't have any antibodies for varicella (makes sense since I've never had the chicken pox, I could have told them that) and for Hepatitis B (I could have also told them that) so I was given a list of clinics where I need to get these. So, the $225 is for the test...not the vaccines!!! Once again, things didn't get properly explained...

me: hello ma'am, does this package cover everything MDC requires?...lady at the wellness center: Yes

Obviously that's no correct!

BTW: should you require the varicella vaccine like I do, it is $110 per series (its a 2 series vaccine) and the HepB is $58 per series (its a 3 series vaccine) at the clinics they refer you to.

Tell them you've tested positive for TB before and just go do the xray. They'll tell you where to go and it's very quick. I don't think I would've waited 3 hours sitting in that little waiting room.

@Miri ...so they had the TB test today? They told me they completely ran out and it would prob be over a week before they got anything

I went to the Miami Rescue Mission and all three visits were quick. Got there and didn't even sit down in the waiting area, just straight inside. No waiting, no lines, no problems and I got to go after work. :)

I went to the wellness center last Wednesday and I was there for there for almost two hours. Friday there was like a 5 min wait but I had gone around 3 and yesterday they let me in because I had my baby but I was waiting in there for an hour, For the NP to sign a paper.

I am doing the CPR class next Sunday I am kinda freaking out about it because it is a six hour class and my daughter nurses on demand. So I am not sure how that is going to work out.

Anybody waiting for second rounds acceptance email have heard anything about when are they going to send it? I'm so anxious waiting for them! :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::(

Would anybody want to do a private cpr/bls class. They will only do it if we have 10 people.

Just took my flu shot at my job. Walgreens came to do it and my employer pays for it, ain't that nice? :) Im almost done the o my thing I'm missing is the famous DCF letter :sniff: I'm going Monday for that

Oh I don't remember who here was asking about switching from part time to full time once you've started the program, but a friend of mine told me that another friend who was part time after her second semester she asked to be transferred, she says they made it difficult for her to transfer, you needed to have all A's in your classes and I don't how many other things. It is possible, I just don't what other things you need to do

In regards to the CPR/BLS class, I did mine in the comfort of my house with a group of fellow students that were applying. There are firefighters/paramedics that are certified through AHA who will teach a class (without a mandatory book) of 6 or more. Best decision I made. The class was fun and scheduled to best fit our schedule. I believe we were charged $65.

I saw two people yesterday leaving the wellness center with their first PPD shots early in the morning ( I asked one of them and she confirmed it). They told me they were out as well and I would have to return another day.

I wish I would have done it somewhere else but i think it might be too late to switch. :(

I went through my physician. It was the simplest choice since my insurance covered most of the cost. They also had all my medical records so it helped with my Hep B vac information. If you have health insurance it may be the cheapest way to go. I explained the urgency behind getting all the paperwork done and they were more than willing to help me.
