Is anyone here going for Mami Dade College ASN program for Spring 2011. they have new requirements, TEAS test and gpa based SOLELY on natural science gpa

the science gpa will be all anatomy, micro lecture, and chem lect + lab. wanted to know what the applicant pool numbers were looking like!

hey if you go to http://www.mdc.edu/medical/ you will see this on the main medical center campus page.

[color=#990000]"effective 2012-1 (august 1, 2012), successful completion of hsc 0003 – introduction to health care will be required for all students applying to a program in the school of health sciences and the school of nursing (ems programs are exempt from this requirement).

those students who have successfully completed

hsc 0003 prior to this deadline date will be given additional consideration during the selection process for admission into the various programs on the medical center campus."

i think it showed up there right before winter break. i would say if you can get into a class you would probably still be ok...i think there were a few absent from our last class, maybe people will drop and some more spots will open up. our first test is soon though...

i am really not sure how much of a difference it will actually make in the decision making process so i think you will be fine if you cant get in dont worry! =)

Specializes in SDU, Tele.

Ohhh I wish I had noticed that a tad earlier. I am sure it would help to have taken it. Oh well. -.-

Just registered for the TEAS on Feb 23. I can't wait. I'll take the practice exam in a few weeks. I also called the school to ask about the baptist scholars program and was told they should be offering it this fall. any of you going to apply?

If i get in to Dade... I think I'll try to get into The Baptist Scholars program.... That's a guaranteed job! win-win situation!!!

I have a question I hope you all could answer. I took Statistics at another school which is higher but the dean of nursing says I still must take MAC 1105. Did anyone have that problem and what are your views on this?

@Sheeco... MDC requires MAC1105...if you took a higher course like Calc then you "might" be able to sub it because the courses have the same MAC prefix, but stats is STA so its a completely different ball game even though its still a math course. Hope that makes sense and hopefully you can snag a mini term spot for MAC or if anything see if you can CLEP the course! Its worth a shot instead of having to wait another semester to do another requirement!

Great Idea about the Clep. I spoke with the world at MDC Medical and they all saod to take it because I need it for pharmacology. I spent hours going back and forth and I was defeated and have to take it. Math is not my strong point so if I take the CLEP they could put me in an even lower math right?

No they won't lower your math. What determines if you get a lower math are CPT scores or high school SAT/ACT scores. CLEP just tries to get the class overridden with no affect on remedializing the initial course. If you haven't tested into MAC1105 before via CPT/SAT/ACT then you'll have to take a lower math like MAT1033 or something...

Ok, let me see if I got this straight. I could take the CLEP to test out of the MAT 1105 and if I fail it nothing will happen. I will just have to take the course. Another thing, with all the changes we no longer have to take the CPT right? Thanks for your time! :lol2:

I don't think you can test out of MAC 1105 just out of 1033 and under. I took basic algebra and another course called concepts on mathematics that another school required for their program and I still had to take intermediate algebra MAT1033 last semester and college algebra MAC 1105 this semester and then I need to do statistics over the summer for the bachelors degree...its been a long math road for me ha ha...think of it on the bright side :) you already have statistics done for the bsn and I am sure if you did good in that you will do great in college algebra!

I really hate math, if you only knew! I am just gonna take the darn class because I have no choice!! :crying2:

Thanks for being so nice to me! I just wanna cry!

Try to Clep MAC1105! If you pass it no worries... otherwise you're kinda stuck... do you know what math you placed into to begin with? When I first started college I had an opportunity to CLEP algebra but i wanted to get the A. whatever works best for you... but if you didn't test out remedial math through your SAT/ACT/CPT and yes the CPT is still in effect only CLAST was removed, then idk what to say. see an advisor to see if you can CLEP

Unfortunately I just checked the college webpage because I was starting to wonder why this wasn't offered to me when I moved back to Miami and transferred to mdc...as of July 2009 they do not offer the Clas anymore do to a senate bill :( sounds like it was a nice deal when it existed. Schools gotta milk every penny...
