I started this thread to hopefully start an information forum for the Homestead Campus students. Also, to start chatting and getting to know each other before the start of class. hey has anyone here received a syllabus? i was told by Ron (the guy who runs the medical campus bookstore) that were suppose to receive a syllabus and its suppose to tell us what chapters we need to read before class starts. i remember someone from the other nursing thread mentioning this as well. i looked up the professor i have prof. Thomas and the email listed on the schools site isn't working.

i found three syllabuses here (the word files under "course information"), but they're dated 2003 so probably not correct.

Does anyone know which is considered the best parking lot or most secure at Homestead campus? After not having a car for several years, I just bought a used one last week (nothing fancy) and it's already been vandalized. I went down there one time taking Campbell Dr. and went over some big potholes. Is there a better route and is it inadvisable to drop down and use Mowry? Thanks for any tips.

*Wow, I just looked at the Homestead rents on Craigslist - about half the price of Miami. I wish I had moved down there before signing my current lease, lol.

and no, i haven’t received my syllabus either.

does anyone know which books are absolutely essential and which ones we can hold off on, and/or do without? what i have so far is: the fundamentals package, physical exam, and the medical dosage books.

any info would be greatly appreciated; i might be going to the book store tomorrow probably for the last time for this semester

hmm, i just remembered that this friday begins the sales tax holiday! so, that means that might choose hold off till then to visit the bookstore, but if anybody knows about the prior “book question” that i asked, please let me know.

Hey guys...sorry if this is in the wrong spot but Im trying to find info about the MDC Baptist scholarship program. Are you guys applying for that? I know its only the BSN program, are most of you doing the ADN?

How do you apply for it? When do they offer it? Is it super hard to get into??

at orientation they told us you can only apply for it if you attend the homestead campus. and baptist wasn't offering it this fall semester. you can only apply for it during your first semester so that means no one whose starting this fall will be able to qualify for it so that sucks. they said they might bring it back during the spring.

Hi everybody! I just want to let you guys know that I passed by the campus last week to check it out. First, since the campus is not too far from the Turnpike, the drive didn’t seem as bad as some students had mentioned. And as far as the parking; I think that as long as we arrive early, we should be alright. Also, I have been reading that some people have been wondering if there’s a Sturbucks around. I map quested the two Starbucks closest to our campus- I’m leaning more towards to the location on Palm Drive. I figured that because it is basically where the Turnpike ends, there will be more tourist stopping for gas, food etc., before going on that long drive to the keys (oops, “sorry for giving you guys a mental pic as to how far out there this place is!”), and more tourist = more police = safer area ( most of the time).

And lastly , I know some of you have been asking about the syllabuses, I havn’t received mine, has anybody recived theres yet?

i called the nursing department and they told me that professors will be coming back to the office on the 18th. so maybe mid next week we should receive something

has anyone here bought a NCLEX book? has anyone heard of any recommended books? also can someone pls recommend a place to buy our nursing shoes. i cant get the ones at the book store since they dont have my size and my feet are to wide and bulges out of the soft leather tops.

I got my shoes here: Working Person's Store. They seem to have a pretty good selection of sizes and widths.
