U.S.A. Florida

hi and congrats to all of us! i made this thread so we could all exhange info for out ft cohort. that way we won't get mixed up with the other p/timers and ao track! congrats to them too!

for those who are just tuning in:

  • our orientation is july 18th, the ati assessment is july 19. mark your calendars!
  • we do need to get titers for 2 tb's, mmr, varicella and hep b is highly suggested! i think hep a too!
  • the program is 4 semesters. we graduate in december 2012!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah:
  • we have to turn in all our paper work for orientation, which includes our drug screen, health record, background check(i think they receive this from the actually company though)
  • make your ati account!!! atitesting.com

what i have left to do:

  • get my drug screen and 2nd tb! should go tomorrow.
  • uhhh all my titers actually
  • my unform--although i've already gotten my skirt for clinicals (don't wear pants), i don't have the top or lab coat!!!
  • get my books-- i've gotten supplementals like an nclex book and stuff but not the actual texts.

what i have done to get ready:

  • i am going on a diet! healthy meals all day! i don't want to gain 10+ lbs--don't like the idea of being an unhealthy nurse lol
  • going over some, but not all a&p--mostly bones, muscles, heart, endocrine, and stuff like that.
  • cleaning out my room to make more space.
  • i got an extra desk--its big and spacious for those late night study sessions. i have another one but its small. mostly for the computer. but it has lots of shelves for my "enjoyment books".
  • i am cleaning my shelves(i have lots) and organizing the books by subject (anatomy, physio, patho, bio, chemistry, dictionaries, etc) and as time goes by, i'll put the nursing books as follows: (fundamentals, health assessments, pharmacology, patho, medsurge, specialties, references/dictionaries, review books)
  • i'm cleaning my filing cabinet out but i am making copies of all my important documents, including my health record incase mdc loses it, lol. so i'll have files for my health docs, extra copies of my other valuable docs(house docs, car docs, insurance etc), and drug screen results. i'm also going to keep file of my ap notes. this is all for simplicity!!!
  • i'm going to buy those under-bed storage bins to store my extras-- extra back packs, extra office supplies, and my sewing supplies(yes i love crafts)
  • make sure my dental appointments and my dog's shots are up to date!!!
  • i printed a ton of "grocery list/menu planner" sheets. i am going to put it on a magnetic clipboard and put it on my white board. every week or month i am going to pick out a day just for meal planning and grocery shopping. i am going to work it out so that the first semester i only have to go shopping twice a month. most of my meals, if they turn out alright lol, will be freezer meals.
  • i think i need to buy a mini freezer lol
  • i'm going to do all my fun stuff before school starts. i want to go to the zoo and see some museums and other geeky stuff with my mum. might not be able to for a while :crying2:

what other misc stuff are you doing to organize your life? i *love* organizing :redbeathe any tips would be great!!!!!can't wait :D :yeah::nurse::redbeathe:eek::p:rolleyes::D:clown:

LOL I am the same way about notes. That is why I like ppts a lot. I don't plan to print my notes now that I will use the netbook in class. It will help save money for sure =D

Yep I love that I can record the lecture right on the program. Its sooo awesome for organizing bc the tabs and you can search through tons of notebooks using tags.... super coolbeansss

eagles - I am really interested in the Onenotes, but have never used it. Maybe we can get together that first week and you can show me how you use it? Do you record the lectures on it, you said?

You guys have probably already seen this, but the site for the Medical Dosage textbook has a better Appendix A pdf (with many problems worked out) than the one in the back of the book. So you can have that open on the computer (or print out) and verify your answers without having to keep flipping to the back of the book.

*I linked to a site that allows you to "view" the pdf (because I didn't know how to link to the file inside the Pearson site - I think you have to register). It's a lot larger and crisper if you choose "save" at the top of the ZohoViewer page and then open the original pdf on your computer.

Thank you!!! I am going to save this on my computer when I get home! Saves so much time =D Did your Dosage Calc book have an access code? Mine didn't... I'm so used to those.

Yea sure! Just remind me this week via text or something, I am kind of an air head :uhoh3: You can record audio while you type the notes and a little "stop", "record", "play", "pause" button thingy is always there. It is so fun to use. It takes a little while to get used to but its worth the effort at first. It will keep you organized. The nice thing is you can also easily share these notes online with other classsmates.

If you have Microsoft Office, you should already have it.

No, it's kind of confusing because I think there are 2 sites. There is one through Pearson Education site which I think is set up for classes the instructor can control online. Then the regular Prentice Hall site which seems easier to navigate.

In the preface of the book (p. v), it lists http://www.nursing.pearsonhighered.com But once you go there it brings you here:

The "textbook resources" on the left are free and seem the most helpful. I think the "Premium" sites on the right cost extra. But I think one of the other texts also uses that MyNursingLab site and gives you the code. I get all mixed up because several of these book publishers cross over and I have an account from a previous Pearson anatomy text and it tries to take me there. Some of the other texts use Evolve or DavisPlus - but I haven't really explored those yet.

Hello all! Sorry, I know you guys are getting ready for the start of the new semester, so I'll get right to it:

Any thoughts/opinions on the value of Intro to Healthcare, HSC0003? It's going to be a requirement starting in Fall 2012, but I'm applying for Spring and it won't be required at that time.

Did anyone find it to be worthwhile, or do you think time would be better spent on classes that would go towards an eventual BSN?

Thanks so much and lots of success to you all! Hopefully I'll be right behind you in the spring :D

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH :yeah:You just opened a door for me! Evolve has such cool free resources! I thought you had to pay for this kind of stuff!

Here's something pretty cool. I once got a 'Vango Notes' audio book corresponding to my microbiology textbook. It's another way to study without having to sit at a desk and zone out. It's not a word-for-word audio version of the book, but a condensed review thing which actually interacts with you using quizzes and stuff.

Anyways, most of the Prentice Hall Reviews and Rationales series that boot2 recommended is available as one of these mp3 versions on Audible.com. But what caught my eye is they are having a $7.49/month special right now which includes one monthly free credit and 30% off everything else. To stop the automatic renewal, just mark your calendar 3 months from now and cancel right before then. This will allow you for a total price of $22.47 to get 3 books from that series (usually $19.95 each).

Oh also there are quite a few chapters that you could get for free anyway. I love freebies :D

Zaptastic - I can't tell you enough how grateful I am that you take the time to share all that you discover with us. I have already bought the book stand, saved the Appendix, and now signed up for Audible.com :D I plan to look up the other stuff that you posted! Thanks so much!:yeah:

I do have it! :yeah: Yay! I had never looked at it before - I had no idea it was so useful. I am going to try to find a tutorial on it to help me along. Thanks so much for your advice and help! I will probably text you about the onenote sometime next week. :)

I used to listen to the audio stuff on my iPod nano while on walks. I had it inside my iTunes, but you can put the files on almost any type of device. They have a free app that I just downloaded and it seems to have a little easier to read interface (as far as chapter info, etc) than iTunes. If you download the free app, I recommend going to its settings (at the bottom) and change the "download format" to "high quality". Here's the info for Android or BlackBerry.
