MDC *Generic F/T* Fall 2011 ;-D

Published

hi and congrats to all of us! i made this thread so we could all exhange info for out ft cohort. that way we won't get mixed up with the other p/timers and ao track! congrats to them too!

for those who are just tuning in:

  • our orientation is july 18th, the ati assessment is july 19. mark your calendars!
  • we do need to get titers for 2 tb's, mmr, varicella and hep b is highly suggested! i think hep a too!
  • the program is 4 semesters. we graduate in december 2012!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah:
  • we have to turn in all our paper work for orientation, which includes our drug screen, health record, background check(i think they receive this from the actually company though)
  • make your ati account!!! atitesting.com

what i have left to do:

  • get my drug screen and 2nd tb! should go tomorrow.
  • uhhh all my titers actually
  • my unform--although i've already gotten my skirt for clinicals (don't wear pants), i don't have the top or lab coat!!!
  • get my books-- i've gotten supplementals like an nclex book and stuff but not the actual texts.

what i have done to get ready:

  • i am going on a diet! healthy meals all day! i don't want to gain 10+ lbs--don't like the idea of being an unhealthy nurse lol
  • going over some, but not all a&p--mostly bones, muscles, heart, endocrine, and stuff like that.
  • cleaning out my room to make more space.
  • i got an extra desk--its big and spacious for those late night study sessions. i have another one but its small. mostly for the computer. but it has lots of shelves for my "enjoyment books".
  • i am cleaning my shelves(i have lots) and organizing the books by subject (anatomy, physio, patho, bio, chemistry, dictionaries, etc) and as time goes by, i'll put the nursing books as follows: (fundamentals, health assessments, pharmacology, patho, medsurge, specialties, references/dictionaries, review books)
  • i'm cleaning my filing cabinet out but i am making copies of all my important documents, including my health record incase mdc loses it, lol. so i'll have files for my health docs, extra copies of my other valuable docs(house docs, car docs, insurance etc), and drug screen results. i'm also going to keep file of my ap notes. this is all for simplicity!!!
  • i'm going to buy those under-bed storage bins to store my extras-- extra back packs, extra office supplies, and my sewing supplies(yes i love crafts)
  • make sure my dental appointments and my dog's shots are up to date!!!
  • i printed a ton of "grocery list/menu planner" sheets. i am going to put it on a magnetic clipboard and put it on my white board. every week or month i am going to pick out a day just for meal planning and grocery shopping. i am going to work it out so that the first semester i only have to go shopping twice a month. most of my meals, if they turn out alright lol, will be freezer meals.
  • i think i need to buy a mini freezer lol
  • i'm going to do all my fun stuff before school starts. i want to go to the zoo and see some museums and other geeky stuff with my mum. might not be able to for a while :crying2:

what other misc stuff are you doing to organize your life? i *love* organizing :redbeathe any tips would be great!!!!!can't wait :D :yeah::nurse::redbeathe:eek::p:rolleyes::D:clown:

PROBLEM = see through pants

SOLUTION = skin tone undies, white underthings, or different pants.

I'd read somewhere that we "test our skills" on each other in lab... to make sure you wear your favorite underthings and not the "well worn" underthings. So, when one of you gives me an injection on my gluteus maximus, I intend to be prepared! LOL:lol2: It is bad enough that you will be looking at my fat orifice. LOL. :lol2:

Pixiemom - save your hands for when you NEED them... don't write or type often. I know you will be around as a voyeur.

LOL:yeah:you're right. Will follow my nurse's suggestion!

Sad:crying2: Don't have any email yet. Maybe cause my last name starts with "T" ?

Who is in this sequence?

trying on pants at the bookstore is a joke. they took my ID (like I'm going to run off with pants that don't fit), sent me to the restroom to try on pants. Both restrooms were being "cleaned". The floors were like muddy water.

What a joke! If I had tried those pants on ... I'm sure they would have been muddy black & was sure to have had to bought them ... SEE THROUGH, TOO BIG & ALL. :lol2:

Nope, I will be buying my pants elsewhere!

That's pretty funny! I just pictured someone in see-through pants being chased by security! Lol :D

Who is in this sequence?

I have the same NUR1025 and NUR1142, but my others are different. Also, my schedule doesn't show any NUR1025C, so hopefully they are still not finalized.

the medical campus library will be open during the summer break (aug 1st-19th) monday through friday, from 8am to 4:30 pm. we are closed on weekends and we are not lending books out--however, you can come in and read the books and make copies, print, study, etc.

get ahead on your reading while you can, lol.

Hi guys i've been following this post since the beginning and today i just got a surprising email i just got accepted to the full time generic Rn for homestead??? uh question is this late or what? lol. i'm very confused it didn't even mention the orientation date i have gotten nothing doneee at all nor know what to get done bcuz reading from you guys it seems like alot of stuff, so i don't know what day its suppose to be done for? ahhh this is crazy i totally expected REJECTIOn what is this a joke?? help!

congrats! i highly doubt its a joke! i'd visit the nursing dept. immediately to see how long you have to turn things in and if there would be a late orientation for the people accepted in the last batch of letters, etc.

i'd start getting your titers asap because they do take the longest. if you can, make all the appointments today. your background check and drug test, for example. call your pcp to see if they can do the titers for you. if you are really rushing, do like i did and go to a cvs minute clinic for your tb skin tests. no waiting line or nothin'.

someone posted a list of the books you need in an earlier page. but the nursing dept. may give you the list if you ask them, along with the student handbook.

if you have any questions, be sure to ask! all of us here understand your nerves :D

ah thank you but il see if ima do it, ive already had my heart set on fiu next year for the bacherlors RN since most hospitals and jobs prefer it uhhh, this is way too sudden i hadn't prepare mentally for this so who knows mayb i might accept ima talk it over with the family! ah thanks :grn:

Well i decided not to go so hopefully whoever wanted to go to homestead for full time will get lucky! i think fiu will benefit me more in the long run so good luck to those entering this fall :)
