Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?
I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol
Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat
This is a question for all... please give me your 2 cents. We are going to have a lot of damn work to do this semester and not a lot of sleeping time. One of the things I struggle with is feeling sleepy and reading these long ass chapters.
What I want to know is what is the BEST drink that I can buy to keep me up for those long hours of studying???
What a question! Most energy drinks are actually pretty bad for you. What I would actually suggest is to cut out all caffeine from your diet until we start classes. This will not only break any addiction you have to caffeine, but will also make you more sensitive to it. If this is not possible, please make sure that you're drinking enough water to counteract the diuretic effects of whichever energy drink you end up with.
Try to break up the reading a little. Read a section, or ten pages and then take a break in which you move your body around to get the blood flowing and allow you to renew your focus when you do get back to reading. I find that reading actively- taking notes while reading, highlighting, writing down questions that I may have about the material, etc- helps with even the most technical reading.

Last year I switched from coffee to tea (green and white) and am really a fan now. It's a lot less harsh than coffee and has proven health benefits (just do a Google). Buying bulk loose leaf is a lot better than the tea bags. And if you want to skip the steeping altogether, there is matcha (but it's pretty expensive).

The one I like is "Monster"...I always get the blue one 'cause it's 10 calories and there is another one (darker blue) with 0 calories. When I drink one like.... at 10 pm, I don't get sleepy in all night. Sometimes I drink it just because I like the flavor and end up not sleeping that day! lol....Of course after like 10 hours I'm sleepy again, but this drink helped me a lot when I pulled all-nighters.
I also like to take one in the morning before class. Otherwise I get too in class. However, you have to be careful...too much caffeine it's not good.
Good luck

Who is in this sequence?
I am a return student to college, and when I was going to school last time, I tutored for the SAT and FCAT for grades 5-12. I learned a TON about test taking strategies during this time, which is a huge aspect of critical thinking tests. Also, my last degree was in a health care profession, and the boards for that profession had a horrible first time pass rate. (About 50% lower than the current NCLEX pass rate!)Most of my classmates and I studied for it and passed it on our first attempt, which might be why I still think that studying hundreds of NCLEX questions a week before we learn the material is an efficient way of studying. Our ATI exams are intended to help us adjust to the way questions will be presented to us on the board exam. Honestly, we'll have months to study for our board exam after we've completed our classes. . . and I don't know about any of you, but I already received the syllabus for Fundamentals of Nursing. I'd rather worry about the test we have in September than the (NCLEX) exam we have in 18 months.
UGH!!! I want my books to come in already! lol- also, purchased my stethascope today :)
Salutations,
How did you get the syllabus? I need to give a copy of mine for the type of financial I'm getting. They won't buy the books without it and I don't want to wait until school starts to get it. Did your instructor email it to you?
Thanks!

Hello Miss Hernandez I have the same classes I have highlighted in bold. Looking forward to meeting you.

Class starts soon... anyone nervous?
Also, has anyone had to go through the SAP process for financial aid?
Jfrommich,
I'm kind of nervous but excited too!
And yes, I had to go through the appeal process because of my bachelors. Let me know if you have any questions because I finished submitting everything yesterday.
I am in sequence two. Hopefully we're all able to keep up and in touch during the next year and a half! I :D
Both sequences have Fundamentals Tues 8am-10:30am with different professors. Maybe we could all meet someplace after that class on the 1st week since everyone from both sequences will all be on campus.

Hey Dea... congrats on getting everything submitted.. so I called to see what I needed... does this sound right...
SAP appeals form
Statement of why we need financial aid....
then take these to advisement where they give you a degree audit and and IEP
then take that to the financial aid office and sit back and wait...
Thats what the guy told me... is this what you did?
Also on the sap appeals form... it asked for supporting documentation... I am in the same boat as you with too many credits.. did you submit any supporting documents besides the ones previously listed?
Thanks for your help!
