Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?
I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol
Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat
Salutations: Thanks for sharing your brilliant critical thinking score of 90.
Before taking the ATI test, did you know you were good at critical thinking?
What do you think contributed to your ability to "critically think". Natural ability? naturally scientific minded? Family of Dr's? other? Can you suggest ideas how I might improve my "critical thinking skills"?
Same as pixiemom, I had a few friends in law school and when they were studying for the LSAT I always looked through some practice questions. The best advice I got was to look at the question and use the information. Don't use any outside assumptions and just strictly use the information obtained in the question. The hardest part about the critical thinking is to go into the test or approach the questions without your typical day to day assumptions and the way things are supposed to be done... for example we all know that running a red light is bad, but if the question doesn't say or infere that, then you can not assume that running a red light is bad... its a bad example, but gives a general idea of my point. I guess the best thing to do is approach any critical thinking question with a clear and open mind, know all of the detail from the question, and make a decision. It's easier said than done, but with practice, you will get better. I ended up with a composite score in the 90's so Im assuming I did something right.
Class starts soon... anyone nervous?
Also, has anyone had to go through the SAP process for financial aid?

THANKS for sharing your brilliant score of 90. Thanks for your input on critical thinking. Did you know to start practicing "critical thinking" a long time ago? The terminology of "critical thinking" is brand new to me. And I realize it is critical that I learn to think critically. I'm just not sure HOW to learn this skill / ability. But your input about the stoplight was helpful. I remember this question on the exam.

Honestly, I really didnt know what to expect going in to this test... but after a couple questions, they reminded me of LSAT type questions... so I just used my strategy from that. I honestly didn't take any classes for it or anything like that, just got lucky I guess. As you progress through the program, I am sure you will get better so dont stress now. Step one is to learn the material. Once you have that taken care of, you will have the tools you need to think thoroughly about questions and answer them accordingly.
HI Peeps,
I just printed it my schedule and its is says credit hours-0, non credit hours-198. Also, it says Classes at Campus/Center: 400 Medical Center Camp even though I am a Homestead campus generic full time. I call the nursing department but no ones answers. If any one here is from homestead please advise if you have the same thing in your schedule. Thanks
I think this site has similar stuff to what is on the Littman app: http://www.3m.com/healthcare/littmann/start.htm
I am a return student to college, and when I was going to school last time, I tutored for the SAT and FCAT for grades 5-12. I learned a TON about test taking strategies during this time, which is a huge aspect of critical thinking tests. Also, my last degree was in a health care profession, and the boards for that profession had a horrible first time pass rate. (About 50% lower than the current NCLEX pass rate!)
Most of my classmates and I studied for it and passed it on our first attempt, which might be why I still think that studying hundreds of NCLEX questions a week before we learn the material is an efficient way of studying. Our ATI exams are intended to help us adjust to the way questions will be presented to us on the board exam. Honestly, we'll have months to study for our board exam after we've completed our classes. . . and I don't know about any of you, but I already received the syllabus for Fundamentals of Nursing. I'd rather worry about the test we have in September than the (NCLEX) exam we have in 18 months.
UGH!!! I want my books to come in already! lol- also, purchased my stethascope today :)

you have it already! aw i wish I had mine... what sequence are you?
This is a question for all... please give me your 2 cents.
We are going to have a lot of damn work to do this semester and not a lot of sleeping time. One of the things I struggle with is feeling sleepy and reading these long ass chapters.
What I want to know is what is the BEST drink that I can buy to keep me up for those long hours of studying???

Pixiemom,
Thanks for your input about why to do the NCLEX style questions.
So...do you have a law degree too???
(thinking: I'm surrounded by brilliance!)
