MDC Fall 2011 =)

Published

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

yea I was told email only by the middle of next week or so...

hm well i figure its on monday. i just went downstairs and asked the front desk and she told me the email will say if you are accepted or not. but i couldn't ask more because i was only supposed to get something to drink lol.

sigh in the end, we will all find out soon, right? i guess there is no point in attacking the front lady anymore because its not like i am going to figure out my personal info! but i guess that is what nerves does to you hehehe.

So I was there today and heard a lot of stuff. I heard a couple women making phone calls alerting everyone to check their emails next week. Second, one of the supervisors told me decisions have been made and emails will go out as early as Monday. Third, I had a major problem while there...

I noticed a few days ago that the system was still requesting a transcript from my current graduate school. I just graduated with my master's degree a couple weeks ago, so when the transcript was originally sent, I was still enrolled in a Histology class... so my transcript showed that grade as a blank space. A couple of the pre requisites (anatomy and physiology) I took during my masters program about a year ago, which was listed on my transcript. So naturally, I thought everything would be covered. I made a phone call a couple weeks ago to make sure, left my name and number, but no one ever called me back. So I went to the admissions office today to talk to someone and found out that my masters degree transcript was never evaluated... so the system still shows me as not meeting the anatomy and physiology requirments, although they have been complete for over a year and are on the transcript that is currently in their possession. I was then told "too bad, you will have to reapply"... after arguing for several minutes, I was then shown into the office of the director or supervisor, or whatever she is... after saying her system was down, she was unable to look up any of my information, but the pervious advisor I spoke to gave her the basics of my situation. After several more minutes of arguing.. she says there is really nothing she can do and that because decisions are already made, I will have to reapply for the september 1st deadline. I just need people's opinions... because I feel like this is completely unfair.. I submitted everything before the deadline... even clept'ed out of a class before May 1. She is telling me because my degree was not complete, they would not even look at my transcript. Is this right? I feel like people apply to programs while in progress at another school... its pretty common. Is there anyone I could or should talk to above these people in the new student center? I feel like this is a mistake on their part that they just dont want to own up to seeing as how I have had everything in since the deadline. The only glimmer of hope I have is that my masters degree will be conferred on Wednesday of next week.. meaning... it will show up on my transcript.. she said I could submit it as soon as it shows up and be placed in the applicant pool, and if people start not taking the offer of admissions, maybe then Id have a chance... but she said no garuntee. Im going to do this, but I feel like there is a better way to be proactive before monday.

that is very unfair in my opinion. i wish there was some advice i could give, but i don't know what i could say to help... :|

Can anyone confirm again which book that is? I remember reading several titles previously, but not sure which one is correct. Thanks

Interesting that the phone call came from the Medical Center campus "Testing Center". I wonder if that is related to the TEAS? Also, does anyone know how far in advance of the semester that orientation has occurred in the past? I have to go on two family trips in August.

It is called Fundamentals of Nursing, its white and I think its by Kozier and Erb's. Here in the library it has a "7 days Loan" sticker which means its VERY popular, so I think its the one most professors use for their classes..

And last year orientation was July 21st.

I would definitely try to speak with a Dean or something. That being said, I also don't know if they would give you a "too bad, so sad" response or not. At this point they have a list, and are preparing to send acceptance letters out. Who knows if the people doing the decision-making have now been given another project, or how many other students have run into an issue similar to yours? It could be 20 or 30 people with transcript problems, and they can't re-evaluate 20 or 30 spots at the last minute, it would throw the entire system into a tailspin, so it might be easier for them to just tell everyone with an issue to reapply.

I'm not debating fairness here, it's obvious that the situation isn"t fair to you. What I WILL tell you is that applying for the Spring semester isn't nearly as bad as it sounds. Fall semester starts in late August, Spring in early January. That's a little over 4 months, and while I don't know your personal situation, that will fly by in no time.

Keep your head up, your shoulders squared, and keep on fighting for this semester, and at the same time start drawing your battle lines for the Sept. 1 deadline too. Then you'll be absolutely sure to be considered. I wish you the best!!

Jfrommich, I'm so sorry! I agree with on eagles wings that it seems very unfair but I have no idea what you should do in that situation. Hopefully being put in the applicant pool will work but maybe verify with someone in the nursing dep't that everything required has been received by them..

Jfrommich, this happened to me, but I was on top of it. I was taking a class at another school that I didnt need and my transcript was considered incomplete because no grade was posted and MDC does not evaluate incomplete transcripts. I was told to turn in a offical "incomplete" transcript which you are aloud to do and once your grades post, you turn in a offical "complete" transcript and your app stays in the application pool. But in order to find this out I spoke to like 4 different advisors, unfortunatley you dont know these things until you're told and not all the advisors are on the same page.

At least you were on top of it, but I was told yesterday that even though my courses are complete... The fact that it will not show my masters degree yet would pose another problem and they would still not evaluate. My degree will post next week, so hopefully it will not be too late. I emailed a few people( chair of the program, dean of the nursing school, academic dean of Miami dade and the president of the medical center campus) though to see if the problem could be cleared up... Hopefully someone will help. It's just weird they don't mention this policy because on their website it clearly states as long as the pre requisites are complete before the deadline, then you are fine... It then goes on to state that even if you are currently enrolled in pre requisites at the time of the application, you will still be considered. :/

Hey dea089,

I went yesterday to verify everything.. They do in fact have all of my transcripts... the only situation is they will not evaluate the transcript with A&P on it because the transxript is incomplete... its the root of this whole problem :/

:hdvwl:

They are going to email. I was considering applying for last spring and i was told by an advisor that your classes must be completed prior to applying. In fact i had a grade change in process and i didn't submit my application until it was changed because i didnt want any issues. I'm sorry that that's what it reads, because i was told different. The practice may not be with the rule, because it is easier. Maybe there is a deadline for the submittion of the grade by the reviewing process.

So, on a hopeful note, has anyone made a plan about how to celebrate a possible acceptance? :D

If I don't get in, I plan on going to the beach to hear some waves and get some peaceful thinking..lol
