Hello fellow students! I wanted to create a topic for those who are planning on starting the MDC Nursing program in the Fall of 2019. It's never too early to be well prepared. LOL. I have a B.A. and was able to get some of my credits transferred to the A.S. I read through the thread for the Fall of 2018 class and the Spring of 2019 class. Both threads have some very useful information regarding how to study for the HESI, scores needed to get into the program, etc. and many people from those groups keep in touch in Facebook and via Whatsapp. I'm looking for a support/study group for those that are in the same timeline as I am. Just starting BSC2086 A&P 2/lab and MGF1106 next week at Kendall/Homestead campuses. Also, looking for P/T work at Baptist Hospital or MDC. I am anticipating taking Microbiology and the Intro to Healthcare in the Spring '19, along with the HESI. Hope to meet some great people on here!

Do not want to scare you all but do want to stress the need to take it seriously and prepare yourself. I started with a large cohort of almost 250 students. I was part of some Intro to Pharma classes that had over 50 students. In fact infamous Prof. Tomlinson taught 4 classes on a single day during the semester and each class with the exception of one had over 50 students. So she taught almost 200 students in the first pharma. Then about another 60 students took the class with another professor. Well fast forward to second pharma and only 120 students will be taking the second part. Yep a little more than half are gone. The semester was brutal and next week many seats are available. It is something that keeps me on my toes and reminds of the dedication it requires. I am about 6 days from the start of classes but me and my classmates already feel behind and we are already talking and meeting up to study. We are anxious to get a syllabus and debating what methods to use to study. So do your research early. Start reviewing the heart. Look at videos on youtube about the Head to Toe or HEENT look it up and you will find it. You need to have a script for each on of those. I said it before, practice fractions and decimals and conversion of temperatures - GET READY THIS SUMMER.
Thank you sooo much for this information , it’s been such a great help to us. I went ahead and took your advice to start reading ahead for fundementals and purchased the fundementals pdf , I know you said to focus on skin , fluids , meds nursing process and safety but their is 50 chapters in the book do you guys cover all 50 chapters in the book or just the topics that you listed. Also what are your study methods how did you study that you found best prepared you for the exams. Also I don’t know if it would be too much to ask for the syllabus for your fundemntals class but it would be really helpful. Thank you so much for any help that you give. I appreciate it so much !!!

I just found this thread and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been reading it for a couple of days (went through all the posts ?). It seems like I’m the only one that will be applying right before the new extended deadline. I have an overall gpa of 3.6 and a 3.5 science gpa, I will be taking the hesi tomorrow! Eeeekkk! I bought different guides and the pocket prep app and it was useful. I’m a “mature student” lol I’m 32 and decided to go back to school part time. I need to work while going to school because with two kids, money is 100% necessary. Personally, I don’t find it too challenging as I’ve always worked while going to school, I guess in part because I didn’t want to rely on student loans at all (we’re on the hook for my husband’s student loans already). I am a CNA but don’t work as one. I will also be commuting from Broward, Pembroke Pines specifically. I used to commute for work to Miami airport (for 3 years) so I’m kind of used to it.
I apologize if this thread seems all over the place, I’m trying to get ready for a meeting while getting the kids ready for school ? .
Good luck to everyone!!
Welcome JoWthsll!
Youll be glad to hear you're likely not the only senior citizen going back to school (Im 35!)
Good luck on your Hesi. Pace yourself and use the full allotted time if you have to. Zooming through it will increase your chances of silly mistakes (trust me it happens a lot to me). Knock out the section that you feel is the most difficult for you First. For example....I struggle reading long passages for extended periods of time so i did the reading section from the start. This helped me focus better towards the end of the exam since i left the subject i was most confident in towards the end.
You'll also want to make sure you are certain of your answer before you move on to the next since you cant go back to change it.
There's a small calculator built into the exam....its a bit annoying to use but it's at your disposal for the entirety of the test.
Be confident and dont stress! Youll do great! Good luck!

For the vocabulary I went on quizlet and typed Hesi vocabulary and it gave me a bunch of sets to study from you can make your own if you have time but I just used a random quizlet that had all the vocab words , I did the same for grammar and looked up a Hesi grammar quizlet. After I finished learning them on quizlet I just did a bunch of practice questions the more questions you do the better it helped take all that info I was learning on quizlet out and actually apply it. For the reading I just did a ton of questions and read a lot of passages and made sure I understood things like authors purpose, theme etc ... Hope this helps.
Good luck on your Hesi your going do awesome !!!
Hi everyone!! I’ve been reading these posts for a while now, so I thought might as well make an account!
I applied for fall for the full time generic program. I thought of doing the accelerated option, but I think it’s just too much to get done in such a short time frame.
My GPA is about a 3.4 and I got a 90 on the HESI. My only worry is that I got a C in chemistry and I feel like because of that I wouldn’t get accepted, but hopefully thats not the case! Now it is just the waiting game... we have about a month to go!
A previous post mentioned that FUNDAMENTALS book had 50 CHAPTERS and do we do all the chapters. No not all the chapters but quite a bit of them. FUNDAMENTALS has 5 EXAMS and one HESI exam - ALL THE BIG CLASSES HAVE AN EXIT HESI EXAM THAT IS WORTH 5% OF GRADE. So EXAMS are the only grading criteria in the LECTURE classes. NO POINTS FOR PARTICIPATION, ASSIGNMENTS, OR HOMEWORK (except one class maybe). So a typical test in FUNDAMENTALS will be about 7 CHAPTERS and one test had 9 CHAPTERS. Now this is for generic full time because ACCELERATED has like 12 CHAPTERS or SO each test. Midterm and Final is usually worth 50% of your grade in FUNDS and MED SURGE. So not only do you need to study but you need to keep good notes to use for your COMPREHENSIVE midterms and finals.
