MDC Fall 2019 Nursing

Published

Hello fellow students! I wanted to create a topic for those who are planning on starting the MDC Nursing program in the Fall of 2019. It's never too early to be well prepared. LOL. I have a B.A. and was able to get some of my credits transferred to the A.S. I read through the thread for the Fall of 2018 class and the Spring of 2019 class. Both threads have some very useful information regarding how to study for the HESI, scores needed to get into the program, etc. and many people from those groups keep in touch in Facebook and via Whatsapp. I'm looking for a support/study group for those that are in the same timeline as I am. Just starting BSC2086 A&P 2/lab and MGF1106 next week at Kendall/Homestead campuses. Also, looking for P/T work at Baptist Hospital or MDC. I am anticipating taking Microbiology and the Intro to Healthcare in the Spring '19, along with the HESI. Hope to meet some great people on here!

I would prefer to get into the generic because I live in homestead

Hi all! Looking up all the great info that you all have posted. Thanks for letting us know about the application date change. I hope it's what you say, however, I find a conversation that I had with a classmate this past Tuesday strange if that's the case. She said she had just spoken to an adviser who had told her it would not be a good idea to apply to the program because her grades were not competitive. She has a 3.6, I believe (got one C and the rest A's) and has a HESI score of 91%. I found that really disturbing that she would actually be discouraged from even applying. She was going to speak to another adviser. I'll ask her this Tuesday if she ever did and what the new adviser said.

Good luck to all of you that are applying for the Fall. I sent my info as well in order to stay in touch with all of you on Whatsapp. It's been great reading all of your messages. I will be commuting from SW Kendall, which probably falls under Homestead for a Full-time program. But hopefully, I'll be driving to Baptist Hospital, since I'll be applying for the Baptist Scholars in November. Good luck on finals you guys! We got this. :D

I feel like the advisors are very misleading and all give conflicting and inconsistent information. Her HESI score is almost perfect and her GPA is really really good as an advisor they should encourage her to apply with those scores not tell her not to apply. Thats really sad that they would tell her that. Honestly I wouldn't care what they say and still apply and take my chances. She probably felt so bad being that she worked really hard im assuming to get that score and GPA.

I believe when all get our acceptance letters were going to looks back at things the advisors said about our scores and GPAs and just laugh. I also think its just a default for them to say to people they wont get in no matter how good their scores are. But its another thing for them to discourage you to apply.

Hey, tell your friend to apply. I’ve been told different things from different advisors. For example, I ask an advisor if I can still apply even though grades won’t be in until after May first and the classes are prerequisites. SHE TOLD ME NO. She said that grades have to be in before I can apply. I felt so sad because I didn’t want to apply for spring because that would mean I’ll sit out two semesters.

I ended up speaking to another advisor and she basically told me what the first advisor told me was bs. If I wouldn’t of gotten a second opinion, I wouldn’t of applied two weeks ago. So tell you friend to still apply cause her score and gpa are actually good.

She did apply, thankfully. I'm hoping for good outcomes. And I agree that no one should be given that type of feedback by an advisor. Just goes to show you how much improvement is needed in that department, actually.
