MDC Accelerated RN program, Spring 2010

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Is anyone else applying for the Miami Dade College Accelerated program starting Spring 2010? I've been reading posts on this sight for a while and thought it was only a matter of time until someone started a thread for those of us hoping to be accepted for January 2010, but I guess not so here it is. Good luck to everyone! Now, we wait....:)

I got the email too ... I think they sent it to most, if not all, applicants, I know of a good handful of other people that got it, too...

Galapagos,

I applied to both Generic and Accelerated. My GPA is a 3.7. Dont give up. Sometimes they're slow. The last cycle was crazy, they took so long!! I've read several posts from a couple of months back and even a few years back about the "golden scholarship email", there were some who got the email and then got their acceptance letters after. At the botton of the email it does say that "it is not notification of admisson to the program." I've appiled to the program before but I didnt' get an email, just a rejection letter.I also went to the Nursing school this morning to find out when letters are going out. The lady at the front desk called someone and that person said either tomorrow or Monday. We'll see guys, you know how they are.

shen whats ur GPA if i may ask. :]

Guys I just talked to an advisor... the news is grim, I was told that she was not aware of a scholarship other than the bapstist for generic she also told me that they are accepting less students than last semester and that meant the GPA cut off would probably be higher. she also mentioned that they received "probably more applications than fall" and that the letters would be going out mid Oct. Now I dont know who to belive but that sick feeling in my stomach has returned.. the same feeling I had all fall. All I can say is I will be praying for all of us and please keep us posted.

I received my rejection letter today for Full time Bridge Program :( I also applied for the part time Bridge program. Don't know if i'll be receiving another acceptance/rejection letter. I called and they said yes but with MDC you never know.

Dear CMQT,

I'm sorry to hear that the full-time bridge did not happen for you this time. :-( Was there maybe less competition for the part-time bridge? As an experienced LPN, I think your years ahead of us all. I hope it works out for you to complete your RN sooner rather than later. Good luck!

Best Wishes,

MDCupcake

the cutoff is apparently a 3.8 again- thanks olofin- so anyone with below that, including myself, should give up hope for the spring. if anyone can please call the advisers and confirm that and perhaps I will too....

I wouldn't give up. Apply to be an alternate. If someone "noshows" and it happens in admissions far more often than you realize the school needs a backup student. I was waitlisted for 2 weeks and because I kept applying and trying I was able to secure a slot.

Thanks MDCupcake ! Received the rejection to part time as well lol. It's soo tough out there. I really want to be an RN, being an LPN is fine but most hospitals don't hire them. It's so tough, I work with an agency that hires RN's too and a lot of new grads are working with me because hospitals aren't hiring RN's right now, there's some kind of freeze or something. I don't know what to really do. I have a friend that goes to Broward's nursing program but that is toooo far for me. Don't know if I should take extra classes to raise my gpa and apply again ? Its driving me nuts !

Dear CMQT,

I think it would definitely be worth it to take some more classes to raise your GPA and give it another try. To raise mine I've been taking the pre-reqs that are required for most BSN programs. Just in case I want to do an RN-BSN program in the future. I figured the classes would probably not go to waste. I'm not sure what they require for the Bridge program but in addition to A&P I & II with labs, I took Microbiology/with lab, Nutrition, and now I'm taking Statistics, Intro to Sociology, and Chemistry w/lab. Just a thought, so that if your going to be putting in the effort to take extra classes to raise that GPA, they may as well benefit you for the future if you decide to return for the BSN. Anyways good luck to you. Let me know if theres anything else I can help you with CMQT. :-)

P.S. Theres a wonderful advisor at the MDC Medical Center Campus, her name is Jennifer Joseph. Shes extremely helpful, and would probably be able to give you some guidance as to how you should proceed from here.

I didn't get into accelerated . Now I'm just waiting on generic.

Has anyone received letters for Full time Generic?
