I have applied to MCG's MSN-CNL Program to start in Fall 2010, and I am wondering if current/past students could tell me when (as in what month) they received a phone call for an interview or acceptance/rejection letters.
Additionally, I applied to the Athens Campus program, so will the interview be held in Athens, or will I need to drive to Augusta? Thanks for helping me plan ahead :) I really hope I am the type of candidate they are looking for!

Thank you for ALL of this information!!
I work nights on the weekend and I am going to try to keep that schedule. I am a TECH in the emergency room and I love how my job relates to school. I also will be getting some tuition reim. If it gets too much my boss will let me reduce my hours, but I have good time management and I am a very strong student so I am going to try to keep working ( on the weekends at night).
:)
No, that's right - as far as I know, we will be taking the NCLEX. I e-mailed Ms. Mitchell about about the advantage of the MSN-CNL program over a BSN program when I was researching nursing schools. I cannot find the e-mail, but it said that we'll have a lot more general information and clinical hours than BSN prepared nurses (but obviously not enough specific knowledge to be practitioners). However, the advantage won't be obvious until after a couple years out of nursing school because at first, we'll be just as inexperienced as BSN-graduates entering the work field. I believe that was the gist of it.
I just got a call from O.M. today and was accepted! I am so excited! I will be at the Americus Campus even though I applied for Macon. The information GAmomandnursetobe was very helpful. Thank you! I asked about the schedule listed above during my interview and she made ours sound very similar to the one described. I just have a few questions to help me prepare for the program. If anyone is going to the Americus campus and knows information about renting in that area could you please let me know? Can the scrubs be any type of scrubs or are they the ones you have to buy from the school? Can the CPR certification be through Red Cross or does it need to be with American Heart Association? Thanks for all of your questions and insights they have really helped me :)
Finals are over (WOHOO) and congratulations on the acceptance calls/letters to the incoming students!
I think that working weekends is doable but you have to know that Monday will kick your behind. That said I'm sure you know what it takes for you to succeed and you'll be fine.
I'm pretty sure the CPR certification has to AHA, give Mrs. M a call/email and she can confirm easily.
You will graduate, take the NCLEX, and be an RN. When you practice, you will more than likely be a staff nurse though there are more positions being made available as Clincal Nurse Leaders. You will discuss this more throughout the year.
Scrubs can be all white, all blue (NAVY, not royal because the BSN students wear royal, bright blue), or blue top/white bottom. If you haven't bought scrubs before, go to a uniform store and try different brands on to find the best fit before buying online or through a catalog.
Another thing that you will need, and that I forgot to mention, is a watch with a second hand. Doesn't need to be fancy :)
You can find out more about the uniform policy and other expectations if you read the CNL handbook. It's on the school of nursing homepage; click on the tab for current students and scroll down to the Policy heading.
Well, that's it for now. I hope this post is helpful, have a great weekend!
Thanks again for so much info. Congrats on finshing your second semester :) Yay!
I am going to try to work Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights, that way I have Sun, Mon, Tues, and Wed nights off. I know for sure I am not going to work on Sunday nights, and if I can get the above schedule I will have all the time I need during the week to succeed. Also, you would be suprised how many hours of studying you can get done in the wee hours of the morning in the ER.. ( lol not suppose to do it, but since we have to sit there and wait for the next pt or EMS we might as well do something constructive)
Thanks again
Enjoy your weekend!
PS. What was your bachelors in? just curious
I was a teacher for special needs children.
Hey jillibeeg :)
I was a dental hygienst in my 'former' life, lol. I think you will really enjoy seeing what you learn put into practice at your place of work even if they don't do it the exact same way. You may even find that you can present new evidence based practice policies into your workplace through the research you do in school.
I'm the only hygienist, but there a many biology and chemistry majors, and at least 2 teachers (probably more)that I know of. The 2010 class has a total of 77 students with 48 at the Augusta campus. The CNL class populations are definitely a mish mash of experience and degrees :)
I have officially reached the required 15 post mark and can send messages, so feel free to contact me if you'd like. I have a whole 2 weeks before the summer semester starts and kicks my behind....well it's more like a week and 1/2 but who's counting?
GaMom I have a question. For the clinicals, do you have to go up to the hospital the day before and pick up information about the patients you may be working with, or yuou just do everything the day of? I was just wondering because sister has her undergraduate degree in nursing and said that had to go up there the day before. Thanks!

I dug out the syllabus from the two lecture/lab classes last semester and copied the schedule that we had:
Patho (NURS 6100) met Monday from 1-4
Nursing Therapeutics and Professional Nursing (NURS 6700) met Monday 0900-1200. Lab for Augusta last fall met Tuesday August 18th 0900-1600, then every Wed (through Sept 30th) & Thurs (through Oct 29th) 0900-1600. Clinical: Begins the week of 10/5/09 0700-1530, lab then changes to Thursdays only.
Stethoscopes can be whatever color you want and the type of stethoscopes that students get is varied. The instructors will recommend you not spend a ton of money on one now because it is quite possible that the stethoscope will grow legs and walk away during clinical if you aren’t vigilant about keeping it around your neck or in your pocket. I got mine at the bookstore (so it's overpriced) but its a Litman and I love it.
ugadawg1696, you might be able to pull off working part-time but I definitley think full-time is out of the question. Besides one day (ALL day) of class and Lab, you have 2 online courses to stay current on. The online classes don't require a ton of time but you'll need to time to study patho, or at least I did :)
