MCG Clinical Nurse Leader - Fall 2010

Published

I have applied to MCG's MSN-CNL Program to start in Fall 2010, and I am wondering if current/past students could tell me when (as in what month) they received a phone call for an interview or acceptance/rejection letters.

Additionally, I applied to the Athens Campus program, so will the interview be held in Athens, or will I need to drive to Augusta? Thanks for helping me plan ahead :) I really hope I am the type of candidate they are looking for!

Gamom Thought you said you couldnt send any more messages... so I sent you an email on this, but you can reply on the post if you want. Sometimes I have no idea where my brain has gone :)

Do you know when we will get to schedule classes? Will it not be until orientation?

Thinking back, I believe we had our schedules a week or so before orientation, maybe a little earlier. It's only been a few months and you'd think I'd remember that detail but so much has happened since then! I distinctly remember everyone filling out their calendars the day after class with test and asssignment due dates though, it takes hours to get organized at the beginning of the semester.

Thanks, That handbook was very helpful! :)

TO ashle83: I asked this question in my interview and they told me they were trying to work out a way to get this paperwork to us besides us having to "pick it up" but it was still in the process of being worked out. She said that they may not have any other option except to pick up the paperwork the day before but they would let us know during orientation.

Does anyone know if we all meet in the same place for orientation or will we meet at the campus we will be attending?

@GAmom&nurse2be: Do you know how many clinical hours we will be completing throughout the entirety of our program? I've heard of other CNL programs in other states doing anywhere from 700 to 1000 hours before graduation.

Does anyone know what the residency portion will be like?

chendamoni, I just looked the slides from my orientation to verify this and we do indeed complete 1000 hours of clinical by graduation. It's broken down like this: 60/240/240/540.

Wow that is awesome that we will have so many hand-on experiences! I'm so anxious to hear more about the program, it seems like they should really tell us more soon! GAmom; thank you so much for answering all these questions... do you know when you hear any more info about the program before you started? Was it in May, or later?

Specializes in None.

Hey all. I called MCG today...the admissions office and they said they are still waiting for the CNL program to send in the final decisions. I wonder if they're waiting for the final transcripts. They stated that CNL keeps telling them it's coming soon.

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a happy Friday ;)

I got the call in May that I had been accepted, and it took forever to get the actual acceptance letter (think it was June). I know you'll feel better once you have the letter but if you've been told that you are accepted try to worry about it. Fall registration begins June 21 and you will definitely have it before then because you need your school account to be set up to first.

Ashle83: I'm not exactly sure how the practicum is going to work out. We will meet with the coordinator next month so I can share more with you then. From what I understand, you list your top 3 choices for the departments you want, and then they match you up with a mentor for the fall semester. There rumor is that the students with the higher GPA get their pick over the other student who wanted the same department. There can be more than one student in the department, I guess it depends on the size and mentors available. I know that you work the shift of the mentor you are assigned that's how you get the 540 clinical hours that semester.

GAmom, (sorry we keep asking you questions! :)) About how much time do you have to put in stuying per week? Thanks so much for answering all of our questions!

Its nice to have an actual timeline on when we might get paperwork. June 21st isn't that far away!

For anyone interested, myself and Adriane are taking the CPR course (AHA certification, BLS for healthcare professionals) on Sunday, May 23rd. The cost of the class is $55 and will be held from 10am-1pm at the LaQuinta Inn in Alpharetta.
