So what do you think someones chances are of getting into Macombs Nursing Program with an 87 on Hesi and a 4.0 this year?

I really hate to sound negative, but I don't think there is any chance, even with them adding extra people. The last few years the Hesi scores have been pretty high. I think last year, the lowest Hesi and GPA that was accepted was 92 and 3.9 respectively. I could be wrong. If you go to the advising session for selective admission they will tell you. Unfortunately, the program is extremely competitive.

Have you thought about other schools?

You must have taken the HESI this morning like myself. I found the grammar and math portion pretty simple, but my vocab and reading brought my score down.

I had an overall 91.2

I got a 100% on the math, but the reading comprehension I did a horrible 83%. I spent like an hour or more just on that section and many of the questions had little or nothing to do with the reading.

I heard we will get an e-mail with our testing rooms average.

I have a got a 91.2 on the HESI and have a 4.0. I have little faith I will get in. I have been crying all afternoon. Oh well, always next year. I am actually considering applying for MCC Physical Therapy Assistant Program, does anybody know anyone in it? Any good things to say about it?

P.S.- I just found this forum, so hello all! I wish I would have found it earlier!

Well first let me congratulate you on how well you did. I know the competition is fierce, and maybe your score will not get you accepted, but keep in mind it is an excellent score, you should be proud of yourself. As far as the Physical Therapy Assistant Program, I have heard excellent things about it and the job demand is very high. I took my Hesi in November and scored a 90 with a 4.0, but I also applied to Physical Therapy Assistant, Surg Tech and respiratory therapy. I know you are upset with your score, but put a positive spin on it. With a 4.0 you are almost guaranteed a spot in Physical Therapy. Good luck to you and keep your chin up. There are so many people that are trying to get into nursing and have received rejection letters. It is very hard.

Hey... a bit off topic, but I haven't been to a nursing seminar. Do I need to go to one? Or can I wait to go IF that is where I end up going??

No, its not a requirement Gem. But you can get some good information. Macomb's website lists all the dates for the selective admission seminars.

You never know what the competition is like. More spots are available, and some do dont accept their spot because they have applied to other schools. I think it was 3 years ago & a 4.0 and 90% got in. 2 years ago, the tests scores were extremely high, and last yr, they averaged somewhat back down. From now until the letters go out there is so much talk, he sd, she sd, it will drive you nuts. It's competitive, but not impossible. Good luck

I think that's good advice. No one will know for sure until we have the letters in hand! It's just unfortunate that they make us wait so long :(

so what do you think someones chances are of getting into macombs nursing program with an 87 on hesi and a 4.0 this year?
you have: 93.5

don't give up hope, this is a quote from another thread:

i went to an informational meeting and this is what i wrote down from what the advisor said:

2008 last 5 students accepted..average hesi 94.2 average gpa 3.68 (93.1)

2007 last 5 students accepted...average hesi 94 average gpa 3.75 (93.875)

keep in mind that those are average scores of accepted students 116 thru 120.

they have added 40 more spots this year, and i am sorry but i know a lot of people have a 4.0, but i guarantee that there are a lot that don't. if the previous years lows were 3.68 - 3.75 there is some chance that there are lows again. also if a lot of the classes were averaging a total of 83, 84, and 87 then we know that not everyone in that room had over a 90 so there were some that recieved mid to low 80's. in my class alone 4 people did not show up which makes the odds better.

just keep your chin up!!

Thanks everyone. I already kinda figured it was over after I got my Hesi score, (I had my own moment as well) but i'll still apply and see what happens. The reading dropped my score... such crap. My math was great as well as grammar. Thanks for the help and goodluck everyone.

There were many spots open in my "class" when I took the HESI in December. If I remember correctly, there was at least 4-6 people who were not there. Since there is no rescheduling and no make ups, that's 4-6 less people to compete against. Every bit helps I guess :)

My brother has one semester eft in MCCs PTA program and he seems to really enjoy it. Sounds like all the students are a really tight knit group. I know they only accepted like 35 students and he was #36 and luckily someone dropped out!
