MCC admission question

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Greetings and salutations to all! Long time lurker, first time poster, so please forgive me if this question has been brought up before (I didn't see anything in my searches). I am apply for entrance into MCC 2008 nursing program and need some insight into the process. While reading the requirements for entry I noticed they require both high school and college transcripts. My question is: Having not attended high school for some 11 years now, do I still have my transcripts sent? And if so, can anyone give me a clue as to how long a request of this nature usually takes? Seeing as I only have to the Feb. 15th (which is my 30th B-Day I might add=-) I also wondered if MCC is the only college I have attended, do I need my transcript for MCC forwarded to the admissions office, or do they have the capability to procure that info without such action? I realize these questions would be best asked of a college official, unfortunately until the holidays conclude, I am left with these questions, lest any of you have some answers for me Hope to here from anyone, and thanks in advance for any input you may have.

For your high school transcript, just call your former school and they will send your transcript to the college (should take only a day or two for them to do this). The college already has your transcripts, so no need to forward them anything. Just make sure you have your application for the nursing program sent in on time. Did you already take the Hesi test or register for the January test date?

Hi Alex,

If you already have taken classes at MCC, they should have your high school transcripts. When I took my pre-reqs there, I had to have them sent prior to signing up for any classes. But be safe and have them sent again. How long ago did you take your pre-req's? I think their policy is you must have completed them within 5 years of starting the nursing program. If not you may have to retake them.

If your pre-req's are completed, you may want to check with other colleges in the area to see if they have any openings. Last I heard MCC had a long waiting list and depends on how you placed on your test.

The Selective Admissions will review your HESI score and your GPA based on the your last 12 credits. If you do not have 12 credits at MCC then you need to get your HS transcript. I took Eng. and Bus. Communications back in 1990 and they still count as credits just fine. You have to have 12 credits by Feb. in order to not need your HS transcript. When it's review time, MCC will pull your credits, you don't have to do anything.

You can call your old highschool and go pick up your transcript then drop it off at MCC. The high school can have it ready right away. I don't know if I would count on them to send it for you. Make sure you follow up if you decide to have it sent. Remember, that's only if you wont have 12 credits by Feb.

I thought they would have my HS trans. since I attended a long time ago, but they don't. I have enough credits and was told not to worry about it. HTH

First off let me thank everyone that had something to offer and also I would like to answer some of the questions you posed. Yes, my pre-req's are complete and current (well except for A & P which I am taking winter semester). Also I have taken the HESI and plan on turning in my admission application after the holidays. Other than that my major concern was this whole HS transcripts thing. Have a great holiday and New Year!

When I went in to the admissions office, they told me that I didn't need high school transcripts. I have a bachelors and they said those transcripts were enough. Don't know if that helps any.

Hello again all! I just thought I would wrap this thread up with the information I have received from MCC regarding HS transcripts. Per

Nancy, an adviser in the admissions office, those whom have already succeeded in getting 12 or more college credits are not required to turn over HS transcripts for admission:lol2:. So with that I say thanks to all of you who cared to comment and Godspeed!

Hey squirrelking thanks for the follow-up :)

Good luck getting into the program. I'm doing a lot of praying over here.

I have the stupid question of the day! Can you attend college without having graduated from high school or possess a GED? Are people not having to give their transcripts over because they already listed their high school graduation info on their college application and that's why the college doesn't need them? I guess I'm a dope but I had my transcripts sent over when I applied, but I did that because the application for the nursing program said to :uhoh3:! I wasn't chancing messing that application up ;).

I don't think that's a stupid question. Actually I know a young man 16 yrs. old who is homeschooling and doing dual enrollment. He doesn't have a HS diploma. As far as I know, I never turned in my transcript back in 1990 and they don't have one on file. I'd be happy to get it, but they said not to bother because I have met the 12 credits for consideration. I was wondering the same thing myself.

I have homeschooled my son in the past and considered enrolling him at MCC. However; I don't know that he would actually get college credit. He's only 14, so I'm not pushing it or him. I did hear that the youngest student at MCC was 13.

Okay, quick change of subject without starting a new thread. I read in another thread that we can go to admissions bldg. G and they will tell us what number we were with out having to wait to get our letter. Anyone know if this is true? I think I may stop in today to find out for us.

This is my first year applying and although I know I didn't get in I'd like to see where I ranked. I have a 3.66 and got 87.3 on the HESI. I'm not really devastated about it though as I just made the decision to pursue this career a couple of months ago. I still have pre reqs to catch up on and I actually think I did quite well on the test considering how nervous I was. Next year I'll do much better.

Any thoughts on finding out early?

I don't think you can get your ranking before the official letters go out. I went into the admissions office and got my ranking after I had already received my acceptance letter.
