Did anyone apply for this summer externship? I saw a lot of previous threads but none from this year! How do people think the application went?! I'm anxiously waiting!
THAT JUST MADE MY ENTIRE DAY!!!! I, too, go to Wisconsin (maybe you're in my class, wiscongirl)? Literally I've heard three people bragging about getting accepted. Clearly it's a lie but it sure did make me sad. Can't wait to show faculty the new info you've found out. Thanks, misspianohero! Seriously made me so happy right now. I hate how competitive nursing students can be. I just hope they can truly choose the people who want it the most.
Hey nursing students!!
I was a Summer III last year and let me say Way to Go for applying for this externship! It's an amazing experience! I learned so much from it that I have applied to my education this year and am currently waiting to submit my applications for a job! All the while getting ready for graduation in 4 months!! I still talk frequently with my roommates and have even gone across the country to visit them this year. (A bunch of us are even planning a reunion at the NSNA convention in April). I remember how nervous I was at this time last year, wondering if I would get in or not. I had a 3.5 cumulative GPA last year and my essays were around 2-3 pages. I know they weigh a lot on the essays as well as your extracurricular activities (both in school and out of school). Some people got extremely creative with their essays (our topics were what would you devote your first year of nursing to if you had to do a volunteer project, and what ONE word describes you). They sent out our acceptance/rejection emails on February 1st last year...the rejection emails went out before the acceptance - a set of twins in my class applied, one didn't get in and received her email first, the other got in and received hers about an hour later - so my guess is that, since the 1st is tomorrow and a Saturday, if you haven't received them today, then you probably will sometime next week! I go to school in Rochester and have been in contact with some of the people who review the applications about having them come and talk to our classes about generic resume/interview skills sessions and I know that they have been very busy reviewing applications! (I heard around 800 were received). Good luck to you all!! If you have any questions about my experience in the program just ask! I am more than willing to share! I also blogged about my experience too! - Nurse-in-Training | My summer experience as a Summer III Extern at Mayo Clinic
