Mayo clinic summer externship 2014

Published

Did anyone apply for this summer externship? I saw a lot of previous threads but none from this year! How do people think the application went?! I'm anxiously waiting!

Specializes in ICU.

Has anyone spoken with Mayo?

I called last week so I vote someone else calls this time.

Just called: find out next week....said screening is taking longer ?

Did she say it would for sure be next week, there is no way they might finish by Friday?

No specific date given.

Thank you for calling! I hate having to wait for next week, but at least we know something a bit more concrete now. Let's just hope it's Monday next week rather than Friday. =)

This was what she had emailed me earlier. So maybe we will know Friday?

We were shooting for February 1st, but realistically, I'm thinking everything will be done and offers out by February 7th.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you,

Good luck everyone!! I am applying to many other externships because of how competitive this is. I am excited to hear and congratulate all who gets this incredible opportunity! Just a couple more days!

FYI! I also had a conversation with Latasha who said the end of this week, or early week and that with the 800 applications they are accepting half the amount of students that they used to. "Previous years we accepted a little over 100, and we have cut that to about half now."

:-(

WAIT WHY?! They've always had 100... why are they changing it this year?

Exactly my question. Whhhhhyyyy LaTasha! :(

Maybe thats why its taking so long, they are narrowing down the pool even further...

We were told last year that Summer III is a program that doesn't make money for Mayo. (But still a great learning experience!) My guess is they've had to cut back on the program a bit because of costs. They've really been focusing on that over the past couple of years with making sure the appropriate number of qualified staff are on the floors (i.e. Adding in more PCAs to help nurses type thing) to help save money while still providing great quality of care for patients)
