Did anyone apply for this summer externship? I saw a lot of previous threads but none from this year! How do people think the application went?! I'm anxiously waiting!
I would say the most important factor is the essay and an extensive resume. At least it was for me. My nursing gpa is not strong, a 3.5 but my resume includes: volunteering at an elementary school nurses' office, interning with the health department, volunteering abroad in Peru as a student nurse, volunteering in Costa Rica for community development, studying art as healing in Italy, working at a public library for 5+ years, multiple scholarships, and active SNA member.
In my essays, I wrote from the heart and exemplified my commitment for nursing. I wrote about my background and what I want to strive for in the nursing career. It was thorough, anecdotal, and displayed my knowledge of the Mayo Clinic and what it stands for. I also wrote a lot about culturally-sensitive care.
You are welcome to PM me and I'll give you my personal email so when you come up to the application process, I can help edit your essays. I had several past Summer IIIs look at mine before I submitted and would be happy to do the same for others.
Hope this helps!, good luck!

Hi all! I know this thread is long since added to, but I was just accepted to the Summer III for 2015 and had a few questions that I'm not sure are addressed elsewhere :)
1. I am wondering, for those of you who do not necessarily dream to stay in chilly Minnesota (even if Mayo is AMAZING), did this externship open any doors that you never thought would be? (i.e. my husband and I really want to be in CA eventually, but the sooner the better, and it is extremely difficult to get hired there since I'm from ND don'tchaknow).
2. Were many of you assigned to one of your top 3 unit choices?
3. If you could go back in time, what would you do differently during your summer?
I hope this post finds all of you well, and I hope wherever you are it's not -20 wind chill like it is here :).
Hi lilyblooming! I am planning on applying for next summer's ('16) Summer III and I stumbled upon this message thread. You seem very considerate and I think you would be a great resource for guidance throughout my application process if you wouldn't mind. I can't PM you because I don't have enough posts on allnurses, but if you are willing and able to provide me with some assistance I would appreciate it greatly! We could chat on Facebook Messenger if that works for you.

Hey just found this thread, I was accepted too! I sent in my paperwork as soon as I got the email. Has anyone heard anything after mailing the papers?
