The Mayo Clinic Summer III application was just opened, so I figured I would start a thread and see if anyone else is planning to apply? It is open until January 2016, so feel free to hop in and comment anytime!
I am looking into the Summer III program and wanted to know how many associates degree students got accepted. I actually want to know if you knew if any got accepted. I am currently looking to apply and want to know if I have a chance. I am in my 3rd block in an associates program. Thank you!
So I never updated this, but I didn't withdraw my application and actually got a call from Stephanie a couple weeks after to say I got in. I felt very lucky to be chosen for the Summer III program and it was one of the best things I have ever done... so if a future applicant is reading this, don't give up all hope if you are on the alternate list.
Hi all!
I applied to the Summer 2016 externship and did not get in. Fast forward several months later (4 months before graduation), I receive a letter from Mayo congratulating me on my nearing graduation and asking that I please consider Mayo clinic for employment. "While we were not able to offer you employment in our Summer III program last summer, the resume you submitted clearly demonstrated you have the attributes and qualities Mayo Nursing is looking for in a new graduate....when applying, please note in your cover letter that you were a Summer III Program applicant". I was directed to apply via their jobs website and to contact the recruiter for more info.
What I'd like to know is if anyone else who applied to the Summer III Program received this same letter or this just a mass mailing on behalf of Mayo to new grads (with a couple of words changed).
I guess what I'm trying to determine is if my application may have more preference than those of the new grads that did not apply to the program.
Hey LonghornChic,
I'm a previous Summer III from this past summer. I had a classmate who applied and did NOT get accepted. She also received this letter. So, with that being said I believe that the letter you received is legitimate and has come from a reputable source. I would also say that it is not "just a mass mailing to new grads." I would assume that they are welcoming you back with arms wide open. The nurse placement officers at Mayo spoke highly of applicants who did not get accepted and wish they could have taken everyone. I would be honored and proud if I were you. Mayo rocks!!! Go you!!!

Hello! I'm not sure if you will see this, but is there anyway you could give more insight on this? When did you receive a call about accepting a position as an alternate? Also, once you actually went to Mayo, do you know how many alternates were in your cohort that summer? Thank you and congrats!
Just got an email and call from Stephanie. She just told me there's a spot in the ED for me! Alternates keep your hopes up!

I know this is two years later, but I am interested in this program for the upcoming summer. I am technically a second semester junior right now, so I will be graduating in December of 2018. Would I still qualify? I know by the summer I will be a senior, but an opportunity like this seems like it is too good to pass up.
Thanks!

Hi sbirdsell, I was a Summer III in Summer 2016. Yes you would be able to participate in the program I believe because we had nursing students who were completing the program and only had one more semester to finish before graduating. If you have any questions, you can call HR at Mayo- they are super friendly and in my experience, more than happy to answer questions. Best of luck to you in your application!!
