I'm finishing up some prerequisites and taking the HESI test on Tuesday for the January deadline. I'm a bit nervous! I wanted to see if there are any other accelerated program hopefuls applying for NAU this spring!?
Also, for the HESI, I heard that there is a&p, chem, bio, math, NO physics, but is there a grammar and a reading section?
Good luck to all in the application process!
Quick responses. I appreciate the conflict Run. As for my "age", I am not concerned in the slightest with that. What I was indirectly stating is as you get a little more aged, you don't have the ability to do as much as you did in your earlier years. When you have a mortgage, live by yourself and care for yourself, you don't have the ability to pack up and head to NYC for example and pay 2-3K for a apartment and maintain the mortgage in AZ in an attept to attend a program there---same holds true for any school. Arizona only had two programs of any interest to me, Univ of AZ and NAU. Univ of AZs program was of little interest to me, so much so I didn't even attempt to apply as I felt I would not be happy in it regardless. NAU is by far the better and so much more appealing.
I was going to do the apply here apply there and hope one accepts me and subsequently go to that school. I simply don't think that is a wise move (for me), as I don't have the luxury of packing up my truck and trekking cross country like I did lets say 15 years ago. I have done a laundry list of wonderful positions in my life, I managed the bond portfolio (and staff of 23) for the second largest insurer in the country, I did investment banking for a large trust company for several years---I've done quite well in my life; but have been quite unhappy throughout. Personal experience is also detailed on my end. I have good grades, etc but my life experience is beyond the scope of most I suspect. I've lost a spouse to cancer did a year plus at an HIV/Infectious disease clinic volunteering at a world renowned hospital (think ER).
We shall see.
Well, quick responses on my part are due to sitting in the library waiting for my micro lab, and feeling a bit unmotivated to work ahead of what's due in the next few days...
And yes ab, your life experience reaches far beyond my 24 year old life bubble :) but again, the wonderful part of accelerated programs is the diversity of people it attracts...and therefore the abundance of knowledge and experience we have to share with others. Man I hope we all get in...I want to meet everyone! Well, and especially since I've already gone ahead and shared my life stories with complete strangers...Haha! Ah well...
I am so glad I found this thread, I've been driving myself nuts since I took the HESI on Jan. 14th!!! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one out there wishing the wait was over!! I did my undergrad degree at NAU and have family that lives up there now. Flag is a great town, wonderful people and super clean air. I love it up there! (especially in the summer, but that's cause I live in Phoenix!)
I scored a 92% on HESI and 3.8 GPA, gave it my best shot, now all that's left to do is hope that 30 applicants didn't do better than me!! It is terrible that so many qualified students have to be turned away. I'm guessing with the economic downturn and resulting cuts to education, it's probably not going to get better any time soon.
I am an "older student," but trying not to let that freak me out too much. It doesn't seem that long ago I was graduating with my first degree. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself so I can have some company while I wait!! Hope I will meet all of you in May!
BTW, anyone else checking their mail everyday, even though you know it's no use till early march?? : )
Hey all-
I just heard from ---- in the nursing dept that letters will be mailed around the 22nd of February...that's so soon!
I'm crossing my fingers for all of us!
On another note, how many courses in progress do you all have? I've got pathology and nutrition this semester, and I'm wondering if most people have just one? My HESI and GPA are both good (95 and 3.8), so I'm just hoping that the 2 in progress doesn't kill me.
Oh good lord. That's so soon! And the day after my bday. Let's hope my 24th year starts out with a big fat envelope in the mail.
I have 2 IP's as well...but mine are a bit more crucial (I wonder if that matters)--A&P I (I took the series backwards), and Microbiology...both of which I have like 97's in after the first exams...I sooo wish I could tell them that right about now...
I have one, as well as a 4.0 in all my last 75 or so credit hours of college (including a 4.0 in graduate school).
I will tell you this, most are attempting to compare him/herself to others, I am not certain that is a good approach. NAU should work to balance out the class; at least that is my hope. I certainly look forward to potential classmates who can discuss their experiences from which I may learn. I hope, if I am accepted of course, that the class is quite diverse and enriching. Entering a class of identical twins 30-fold certainly doesn't seem overly enticing. I ensure the admissions counsel takes this in to considerable consideration.
That is soon for letters, which is good. We shall see
Uhh. I just got a call from NAU congratulating me on my acceptance to the summer 2011 term. Didn't mention anything about nursing, so I'm assuming it's just for the school as a whole, not nursing. Anyone else get a similar call? I kinda think I may have filled out the wrong NAU application (the general application). Hmmmm...
Each of you is going to be admitted, you have all the essentials the school is looking for, so don't sweat it.
I read an article the other day about NAUs program in 2008. It said they had 40 applicants for 30 spots, but only 16 ended up enrolling because of financial aid issues.
I tried to find it again on Google but wasn't successful. I wonder if each class since has had 30 students. I wonder what the attrition rate is as well.
Regardless, don't sweat the waiting process---it is already Feb 14; just a few short weeks left. I'll see if I can find that article again

Ab, I'm in the same boat as you as far as knowing where I want to go, but as far as what I want to do with an BSN, I couldn't be more different!
I considered a few other schools, but decided to only apply for NAU. If I don't make it, then i'll devise a plan B if I need to cross that bridge. I've been thinking a lot about being an RN, and to get the jobs I really want (mostly research or administrative positions), the bsn is not the end of the schooling road for me. The part that makes it difficult is not only new grad job scarcity, but the fact that my boyfriend and I have been doing the distance thing for 8 months, and with an NAU acceptance, it'll be a total of at least 2 years living states away while he finishes his masters in CO and me (hopefully) in AZ. We're both very driven academically, so at our age we both value our education over our relationship...but gd It's a pain in the add living so far away! Now I bring this up because I know the accelerated program attracts so many different people with very different backgrounds, experiences and situations, and it seems to be a great option for people wanting a quick bsn as a gateway to other academic endeavors. For me, I'd love to continue my education after the bsn, but personal situations might postpone that a few years. What is everyone else planning on specializing in, or continuing with?
