I'm finishing up some prerequisites and taking the HESI test on Tuesday for the January deadline. I'm a bit nervous! I wanted to see if there are any other accelerated program hopefuls applying for NAU this spring!?
Also, for the HESI, I heard that there is a&p, chem, bio, math, NO physics, but is there a grammar and a reading section?
Good luck to all in the application process!
I'm also a 2011 hopeful and can confirm one of the previous posts - an advisor at NAU also told me that those scoring above 90 on the HESI have a good chance of being accepted... We'll see... the wait is KILLING me! Good luck to everyone here!
As a personal aside, I think it's a sad fact that many qualified and talented individuals who would make great nurses will not make it into this and other programs like it this year simply because there are SO many qualified applicants in the pool and very few seats available - with such an incredible shortage of nurses in this country, that is just unbelievable -- we need more programs like NAU's!!!
Welcome life and zhong!
@ life, thanks for the confirmation! May the waiting process be kind to you!
Also, as a topic I'd love to hear opinions on...do you think there is an actual nursing shortage? As I've perused around this site, I see that MANY new grad are having trouble finding work. As the recession continues, older nurses are choosing not to retire, and part time folks are going full time for various reasons. Also training new grad is extremely expensive (they're basically paying 2 people for 1 job), and not to mention risky (no guarantee you'll stay long after your contract is up), so 2 years seems to be the magical number for required experience. I'm personally hoping the economy picks up in a year, and in the meantime I may as well focus on school. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
And zhong...I think most of our entrance credentials are in the previous pages if ya go back and check 'em out...
Zhongguolong, remember that GPA on pre-reqs is considered first and foremost, HESI score second, so having a 4.0 on pre-reqs and a near 90 on your HESI is still really good. I didn't mean to worry you?
RunMT, my husband is an RN and I asked him this question - if there is such a "nursing shortage," how come many new grads are finding it difficult to find positions? He put it this way - there absolutely is a nursing shortage, but despite this fact, the hospitals/longterm care facilities' hands are tied - they are not immune to the economic downturn and simply don't have the money to cure their shortages, so a single nurse employed today is having to cover the work of many nurses for now until the hospitals can afford to hire more (just his observations of course).
This thread has turned silent as of late. I was curious how many of you applied to various schools. I sat down when I researched the steps to take in the career choice I have set and made a list of schools. I had a handful, but have recently decided NAU is the only program from which I truly seek admission. I have bellowed I am bit older than most of you, but after consideration I realize throwing my life around willy nilly at random schools just to try and get accepted is likely not a feasible means of reaching satisfaction with a school/nursing program. I did thorough research on NAU and compared it to elsewhere and I simply don't think the set up of other programs competes in regard to my own interests. Little to say, I am throwing my chips in at NAU and hoping for the best. Not to revert back to the age thing, but at this point in my life I realize it is far more crucial to go precisely for what you want and not get it then it is to go after something you think you may want and regret it; that's precisely how I felt when I made a list of schools that simply were there as "insurance", rather than true desire. I suppose we will all find out soon and I truly wish each of you the best.

Run you can access out of state tuition through the website (I think). NAU has a program with many other states in regard to undergrad tuition, but when I read the program they sent me nursing is NOT included.
When I did research I think it said a year it was 15K, but since it is 3 semesters and has excess hours for two of them, I am sure it may be more. That doesn't include housing as an out of state resident.
I found this link that has some info, BUT I am not sure if this is correct...probably a good ballpark estimate

Don't forget, they are adding a $1600 program fee to the tuition cost and then you have some other fees as well. School is not cheap!
