Does any one know the tuition for instate? I was looking at the website and clearly there are multiple different options. Says undergrad is around 3600/sem (continuing undergrad)---I am not sure which option is actually applicable to this accelerated program. I also know the website says they assess another 1800 total for the program. The summer tuition appears to be around 6K? Then you have all the fees, etc. Any one know what the instate cost is or even have a ballpark figure? Street since you have some liaison do you happen to know by chance? Just curious if others have looked at this and the tally they reached.

Accelerated programs...expensive or cheap?
You do not need a "name" to succeed. You need a bachelor degree to go on to a Master degree, not a bachelor degree from JHU or Yale, or the laundry list of other significantly over-priced options. I could pay the 64K out of pocket to attend JHU, but I saved the money to attend school by money making wise investments. Shoving 64K in to a program that will award me the same degree as multiple state schools at a 1/3 the cost certainly isn't a wise investment. I assure you, the top twenty percent at at state school will be regarded more highly than the bottom twenty percent at JHU. So unless you aren't interested in doing well, go with a much cheaper option. The NCLEX doesn't ask where you attended college, it cares that you pass...as will your employers. Ever asked a nurse caring for you where he/she attended school? In nursing, the name recognition is useless...in my opinion. Go with a cheaper option

Hey thanks Street. I am sorry for any mis-info, I am just stressed to the core and went out with my friend last night and inquired endlessly about the process at this state school. He said "The undergrad would not welcome you unless they have been advised to do so by the college applied to". But since NAU works differently, then I eat my words and sincerely apologize!

To the two of you, Run and Lindy, who received phone calls from NAU undergrad congratulating you on admission to the undergraduate summer school, that is the typical sign the college of nursing has recommended your admission. You essentially have been accepted. Just an FYI My friend does admissions at another Arizona state school for masters, and that is how they do it as well. The college would not contact you to congratulate you on admission if the college you applied to did not recommend you for admissions. Congrats.

Big Mama if you did not get admitted to NAU, where did you end up attending? If I may ask. In addition, an 88 HESI is an excellent score. I was told the avg for the accelerated program is mid 80s. That means half are above and half are below. Your score was above.

Each of you is going to be admitted, you have all the essentials the school is looking for, so don't sweat it. I read an article the other day about NAUs program in 2008. It said they had 40 applicants for 30 spots, but only 16 ended up enrolling because of financial aid issues. I tried to find it again on Google but wasn't successful. I wonder if each class since has had 30 students. I wonder what the attrition rate is as well. Regardless, don't sweat the waiting process---it is already Feb 14; just a few short weeks left. I'll see if I can find that article again

Sounds to me like every one of you make a great candidate. Just relax, no reason to worry as there is nothing you can do now to change the result.

I have one, as well as a 4.0 in all my last 75 or so credit hours of college (including a 4.0 in graduate school). I will tell you this, most are attempting to compare him/herself to others, I am not certain that is a good approach. NAU should work to balance out the class; at least that is my hope. I certainly look forward to potential classmates who can discuss their experiences from which I may learn. I hope, if I am accepted of course, that the class is quite diverse and enriching. Entering a class of identical twins 30-fold certainly doesn't seem overly enticing. I ensure the admissions counsel takes this in to considerable consideration. That is soon for letters, which is good. We shall see

Quick responses. I appreciate the conflict Run. As for my "age", I am not concerned in the slightest with that. What I was indirectly stating is as you get a little more aged, you don't have the ability to do as much as you did in your earlier years. When you have a mortgage, live by yourself and care for yourself, you don't have the ability to pack up and head to NYC for example and pay 2-3K for a apartment and maintain the mortgage in AZ in an attept to attend a program there---same holds true for any school. Arizona only had two programs of any interest to me, Univ of AZ and NAU. Univ of AZs program was of little interest to me, so much so I didn't even attempt to apply as I felt I would not be happy in it regardless. NAU is by far the better and so much more appealing. I was going to do the apply here apply there and hope one accepts me and subsequently go to that school. I simply don't think that is a wise move (for me), as I don't have the luxury of packing up my truck and trekking cross country like I did lets say 15 years ago. I have done a laundry list of wonderful positions in my life, I managed the bond portfolio (and staff of 23) for the second largest insurer in the country, I did investment banking for a large trust company for several years---I've done quite well in my life; but have been quite unhappy throughout. Personal experience is also detailed on my end. I have good grades, etc but my life experience is beyond the scope of most I suspect. I've lost a spouse to cancer did a year plus at an HIV/Infectious disease clinic volunteering at a world renowned hospital (think ER). We shall see.

This thread has turned silent as of late. I was curious how many of you applied to various schools. I sat down when I researched the steps to take in the career choice I have set and made a list of schools. I had a handful, but have recently decided NAU is the only program from which I truly seek admission. I have bellowed I am bit older than most of you, but after consideration I realize throwing my life around willy nilly at random schools just to try and get accepted is likely not a feasible means of reaching satisfaction with a school/nursing program. I did thorough research on NAU and compared it to elsewhere and I simply don't think the set up of other programs competes in regard to my own interests. Little to say, I am throwing my chips in at NAU and hoping for the best. Not to revert back to the age thing, but at this point in my life I realize it is far more crucial to go precisely for what you want and not get it then it is to go after something you think you may want and regret it; that's precisely how I felt when I made a list of schools that simply were there as "insurance", rather than true desire. I suppose we will all find out soon and I truly wish each of you the best.

Run you can access out of state tuition through the website (I think). NAU has a program with many other states in regard to undergrad tuition, but when I read the program they sent me nursing is NOT included. When I did research I think it said a year it was 15K, but since it is 3 semesters and has excess hours for two of them, I am sure it may be more. That doesn't include housing as an out of state resident. I found this link that has some info, BUT I am not sure if this is correct...probably a good ballpark estimate http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg03_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=1114 Don't forget, they are adding a $1600 program fee to the tuition cost and then you have some other fees as well. School is not cheap!

May I ask the age "range" of the others here? Do not feel obligated to answer, I am just curious if I am significantly "older" than most or just slightly so.
