May 2011 NAU accelerated nursing program hopefuls!

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I'm finishing up some prerequisites and taking the HESI test on Tuesday for the January deadline. I'm a bit nervous! I wanted to see if there are any other accelerated program hopefuls applying for NAU this spring!?

Also, for the HESI, I heard that there is a&p, chem, bio, math, NO physics, but is there a grammar and a reading section?

Good luck to all in the application process!

Confirm this of course but . . . I was told for the traditional program that you could not have your lecture and lab from different courses/ semesters. With that said you should look into Eastern Oregon Univ - online survey of medical micro. They run 8 week sessions. I took it last march-june and NAU has at least preliminarily accepted it. It was less than $600 for the course.

Good luck to you all. I'm taking the hesi the 22nd of next month. Thanks for the insight RUN and AB.

I hear ya, clearly they will base admissions on "numbers", but if it was exclusively numbers they wouldn't request letters of recommendation, volunteer, healthcare experience, etc.

I suspect there is far more to admissions, but I have no idea, as I am not an admissions officer. Interesting to know how many applicants they received

Hey guys,

It's good to hear from others who have applied for the program! I'm in Flagstaff, taking my last pre-reqs at the community college here. There are 5 or 6 of us there who have applied to the NAU program.

From what I can tell, there are about 80 applications in this year (this is from conversations with the advisors at NAU), but Gregg also told me that most people with a HESI of 90 or above have a really good shot at being accepted.

Hopefully you all get in and come to Flagstaff! It's a good town, especially if you are into the outdoors (not that we'll have time for anything but studying...)

Lindy! Glad you found us! And thanks for the info...puts my mind at ease a bit :)

I've heard flag is like a southern version of Missoula, mt where I got my undergrad...which would be awesome! Mountain town hippies is what I've heard. Lots of outdoors, hiking, mtn biking, kayaking, PBR, and Eco-friendliness...all of which I dabble in (some more than others...ie PBR). Haha...Lindy do you know of any running/training groups in flag? I'm kinda curious about the running scene down there...

Run-

Yes, Flag is similar to Missoula, minus the river. Plenty of hippies (but lots of yuppies, too), tons of outdoorsy types, plenty of PBR drinkers :D and loads of running and mtb-ing trails. The best part is, we get 4 seasons, but Sedona is only a 40 minute drive away, so you can escape the snow in the winter!

There is a great running community here, I actually work at the bike shop right next door to the run shop; and so I see groups running all the time. There is Team Run Flagstaff, which is a multi-level group that trains together mostly on the track; then there is NATRA (natra.org), the trail running group. There are lots of running events, too-5ks, 1/2 marathons, mountain climbs, etc.

I'm a bit of a runner too (more mountain biking, but running is great when you're time-limited), so if you come to Flagstaff we'll have to go for a run together!

80 seems like a lot of applicants to me. If you read the material on the website, it states the following:

How many students apply and how many are admitted?

We admit 30 students per year, as resources allow, to the Accelerated-option BSN Program. In the past, we have had as many as 85 applicants per admissions cycle.

With the economy the way it is I guess there may be a flock of people looking for other life options and increasing the applicant pool. Who knows. At this point there isn't any thing any one can do.

Ah great Lindy! I did the missoula marathon last summer, and the Run Wild training group there is AMAZING, and I've been missing that kind of group here in Bozeman. But if I end up down there, a running pal would be great...although adjusting to the altitude might take a while...

Bike shop eh? So you probably know the folks from drunkcyclist.com then? That would blow my mind! If you're familiar, my boyfriend is 40hands who occasionally posts on there.

And Ab...80 just means you gotta to be in the top third-ish, after that, I don't care if I'm #30 :)

May I ask the age "range" of the others here? Do not feel obligated to answer, I am just curious if I am significantly "older" than most or just slightly so. :D

I guess I do kind of make myself sound like a typical college student with the beer references and such (truth is I enjoy a beer or two every now and again, but with school even that doesn't happen often)...I'm still a youngin' though, I'll turn 24 this month.

I have a birthday this month as well. Lets just say I WISH I was turning 24 this month

Has anyone got a definitive answer on how much out of state tuition would be? I might dig up the 2010 thread and see if anyone responds...

I'm 28...so somewhere in the middle of you guys.

And, Run, yeah I know the DC guys. They used to live up here but don't anymore. Small world, huh?
