I may have to give up my dream of being a nurse. I recently got put on the waitlist for my nursing program, and the way things are, I just don't see anyone giving up a spot so that I can fill their seat.
I looked into other colleges and it gets even more challenging. While the pre requisites are similar, each college has an additional pre req that is different from the last school--classes that are required for their program that you can only take at their school or classes that are not even offered at the college I am currently attending. There is no universal pre requisites for a nursing program, all of them are slightly different which means even if I wanted to apply for more than one program it would be hard to do. It would be easy to apply to two or three different schools if all the pre reqs are the same but colleges are making it hard by adding these additonal & unnecessary classes that I have never even heard of so you can get into their program. And not only that but you only have 5 yrs for a lot of schools before your pre reqs expire, which means I need to hurry up so I wont have to retake classes over again
I have been crying all day long, sad, upset, frustrated. Maybe I need to pick another field because this is just becoming too competitive.
Just because you can't get in right away doesn't mean you should give up your dream, especially since you worked so hard to get there! Lots of students wait to get in because of the "wait list". It happens.
Maybe you could take some other classes until you get in? What program are you trying to get in to (sorry if you already answered - couldn't read all posts!)? LPN, RN, BSN? There are usually classes added to the schedules of these programs - such as nutrition, microbiology, workplace empowerment, etc. - that you can take before you get into the program. I recommend it because it gives you time to focus ONLY on your nursing classes. If you've already taken all those, maybe get prereq's done for a BSN course if you want to go that route - it's much cheaper to take those classes at a CC instead of a university. Or you could start working as a CNA and get experience that way, if you don't have it already. I've been a CNA for years and it has really helped me in clinical, since you have to provide total patient care. Many of my classmates wish they had the CNA experience. Or maybe just take some classes that aren't required, but might help - like Spanish or Cultural Diversity.

Don't give up just because you can't get in right away!
I am trying to get into the ADN program to be an RN. I dont have the strength to do anything right now. I dont even want to go to class tomorrow
The counselor could not even assure me if I will even get in, they couldn't even tell me where I stand on the waiting list. I have taken all the classes for the ADN program at this school, right now I am just wasting money sitting around.
And if I take more classes for another program I still will not be any closer to being a nurse, all the deadlines have either passed or soon approaching...I have been crying so hard all day long. My future looks very bad right now
The wait list thing is really too bad. There's only so much you can do about that. You'll have to explore your options and make some tough choices. No fun!
In regard to housing, though, you may be able to work out something affordable without having to move home, whether or not you're a student and whether or not you have financial aid that includes housing. There may be more alternatives out there than you're currently aware of. If it looks like you're really stuck with nowhere to go but home and home is abusive, someone at your school may be able to help you identify other local resources. It's worth asking, and asking several different people in different departments since some people just aren't helpful or don't know.
Near my college, it wasn't uncommon for 4-5 students to split a small, 2 bedroom apartment off campus, which was actually a lot more affordable than student housing; rent could be covered with a part-time entry-level job. And being a private apartment, one wouldn't have to worry about loosing their housing if they took a semester off. There are also people who rent out rooms in their house for very low rent, especially if you can help with cooking, cleaning, childcare, etc.
Is it common for ppl to give up their seat? I just want to know my chances of getting in
I can't tell you for sure that there will be a spot for you, but you never know. People do give up their seats in nursing school. They may change their minds or maybe they've applied at other schools and got in somewhere else. When I first decided to apply to my ADN program, I was waitlisted indefinitely (the school accepted students three times a year) and then I got a phone call the night before the term started, asking if I could start the nursing program the next day. You never know!
Please don't give up. Your situation sounds tough but it is not insurmountable. Look into other schools and housing options. Maybe you could be a live-in companion for an elderly person and help with household chores and transportation in exchange for housing.
Please don't let this get you down or derail your plans. :heartbeat
I am attending the Stark and Tusc. branches of Kent. They do require a Fundamentals and an Intro to Chem. If you have any questions about Kent, I can try and help!
As far as you getting in, you never what going to happen with people's lives and how things change and it's not the right time to start NS. I applied at a Hospital based program and I was on a waiting list as well and I got called. However, I ended up declining so I could stay at Kent. I know of another person that attends the Tusc branch of Kent and last Aug. (at the very last minute) got called because someone dropped! You just never know!
If your school does not provide residential housing it is within the guidelines to use financial aid for housing. Keep your head up and keep looking. Call your local Department of Health and Human Resources (some states use different names for the agency) or other agencies in the community, they should be able to help you some.

I would love to attend a community college but I have no place to live. I don't make enough money to rent my own apartment. The reason why I chose the university I am at now is because financial aid pays for my housing.
I was in an abusive situation and I cannot live with my parents which is why I left. I wish I could live at home and go to a community college but it is not a good option for me
