May 2016 CEP applicants

Published

Hi Everyone,

For those that have applied in May to the CEP program through MCCCD, it is almost time to learn our fate! We should hopefully be hearing within the next week or so if we have been accepted to the program and where we will be placed. I wanted to create this topic as a way to keep each other updated. I know I am anxious to hear good news and I am sure there are many others that have not stopped refreshing their emails.

Good luck to everyone! And feel free to post!

* I did not find this topic elsewhere, but if there is one already started, please let me know and I will delete this one*

Hi, I'm peaking in here ladies so happy to see this thread. I am finishing my last pre-req then applying to MCC/ASU CEP. Anything you can share with me that would help? I switched from Dental Hygiene so I want to be sure I don't have any surprises this time. I haven't 100% decided on the university actually. I hear a lot of good things about NAU but it seems like they have more prereqs. I don't know anything other than what's on paper about Ottawa, and ASU I hear is easy to get into but is not student focused. I only need the MAT course, and the universities all require a different one I think? I hate college math, so that's my issue.

I appreciate your advice and perspective, and best of luck to all of you! Oh by the way I think MCC has 85 out of 100 spots dedicated to CEP is why they can place so many and announce early, from what I was told... Take care.

I'm not 100% sure on the curriculum difference between ASU and NAU. However, I did hear from a current nursing student that with NAU's program, you have to take classes in person at their North Phoenix campus, but only that first semester. After the first semester, everything else is online. At first, the thought of driving from Gilbert to North Phx didn't sound appealing, but then my friend explained that you are learning vitals and going in person gives you hands on experience. She said that experience made her more confident during the block one nursing. NAU's pre-reqs look intense, but they can be fulfilled if you complete an AGEC-A. I would consider speaking with an advisor to see what classes you need in order to meet the requirements for the AGEC. If you only have to take one or two more classes, then it may be worth it.. It will at least open up your options. Also, when I was comparing the brochures for both schools, it looked like ASU's courses ran a semester longer. From my understanding, NAU ends at the same time as the Maricopa classes. I applied for both universities and will be happy with either one, but I think NAU may be better (and cheaper). :) Hope that helps.

Hello everyone

I just received my CEP acceptance letter with CGCC/NAU:) I'm super excited to begin. Good luck to the rest of you!

Congrats!! I just got my acceptance email as well. I am also CGCC/NAU! I am so relieved. I feel like I can finally breathe.

I looks like the acceptance letters are starting to go out out more frequently. Hopefully everyone gets the good news they have been waiting for.

Congrats Danigirl11! Looks like we will be going to CGCC together:up: which information session are you going to go to?

Good job guys!! I am so jealous you guys heard back. I have still yet to hear anything. I feel like i'm slowly going crazy.

Hey Guys! I applied for the CEP program in May, and I am still currently waiting to hear back! So seeing everyone's post is making me nervous!! My top 3 community colleges were MCC AM, MCC PM & SCC, and NAU as my university...fingers crossed...I also applied this past January, but was not accepted due to a mistake in the application process, so I'm really hoping they didn't mess up again :/

Han0101 I haven't heard of anyone hearing back from MCC yet so don't get too worried yet! They're probably just taking a little longer to send out their acceptance letters. Good luck to you!

Received my acceptance for SCC/UIU a few days ago. From my understanding only a few schools have sent out acceptances, I think there's still a bunch coming

Congrats Danigirl11! Looks like we will be going to CGCC together:up: which information session are you going to go to?

I most likely will go to the Wednesday orientation. You?

Honestly, I think the biggest, and for me, the most important difference between NAU/ASU is cost. ASU ends up being much more expensive. I am paying cash for my schooling. I think if I was using loans, I might not care because it's money I have to worry about later. Although, that isn't really a very mature or money-wise way of looking at it, I just think that is how I'd react. Since I am paying cash, I just wanted a less expensive route.

I also wanted to finish the BA classes at the same time as the AA classes. NAU is the only school that does this. Honestly, this is probably not a big deal to everyone - but for me personally, I only had to take two classes to do the NAU application - and I had to wait to apply anyway. So I had the time to get the two classes in before I could even apply to the CEP anyway. Two classes, and now I'll graduate with my BA at the same time.

If you had to take more classes and put off the CEP app - I'd say forget that and just apply to ASU (or one of the others).

Funny thing for me, is that my husband is an ASU student. I kind of wanted for us both to graduate from ASU - but I ended up going with NAU in the end. I am in my first summer session, and I am enjoying NAU. Not a bad chocie at all.

As far as the "in-person" classes. There are only two, the entire two years, and both in the first semester. One class is only 5 weeks, and you only attend 4 weeks in person. It is super easy, laid back and an easy A (in my opinion. I got 100% in this class. I can't imagine anyone got much less). The other class is a lab portion of the physical assessment class. I got a great instructor. This class is 10 weeks. It is nice being in the lab and I am glad we had these two in-person classes prior to the start of the community college "block" portion has begun. Everyone was super nervous to start, but they grouped everyone (to the best of their ability) into their cohorts so we have met each other and have become friends already. It has been nice to work with each other before the block.

Almost everyone in our lab class belongs to the same cohort.

I think it mostly depends on what you care about most. Do you want to graduate BA/AA at the same time? NAu is your only option. If you want to apply ASAP - what schools requirements do you meet right now? Is money an issue? Etc.... Good luck!

Hi all! I just got my acceptance to GWCC/Grand Canyon, but I didn't get any information about an orientation session. Did anyone else?
