Maximum bedside visitors

Specialties NICU

Just wondering what the maximum number of visitors your NICU allows at the bedside is? The unit I work in allows only 2 visitors max, no exceptions. However I was talking with a friend who works in a neighboring NICU, and she says they allow up to 4. That seems like a lot to me.

How about your NICU units?

We just went to private rooms and now allow up to four people at a time. Have to say I liked it better when we could only have two at the bedside. It's sometimes hard trying to maneuver around four people

We allow 4 at the bedside and a parent has to be present in that number, but we also have private rooms so crowding is not an issue. Parents can also designate up to 4 people that can be independent visitors. Of course with palliative care, it is left up to the parents as to who & how many they wish to be at bedside.

Our unit has a strict 2 person at the bedside rule. (Sometimes 4 in the case of multiples.) They can pick up to 4 visitors to be placed on their visitor list. Those are the only visitors allowed throughout their NICU stay. Our NEOs are very serious about the visitor policy. I've only ever seen them make exceptions if demise is the most likely outcome.
