Master's Practicum

Hi everyone!

I have to do a practicum project to complete my MSN through Aspen University (highly recommended as of right now!). It is supposed to be a "quality improvement" project. It's so open-ended that I'm having trouble coming up with an idea. Any thoughts out there from my fellow school nurses? I work in an elementary school, and as of now my topic of interest is substance abuse prevention, but that might be a big undertaking for an 8 week period. Help!

Have you looked into the CDC's School Health Index?

It's a lengthy and extensive survey, but it does give a good look into what your school is doing well and what your school could improve. Maybe you could get some good ideas for improvement there that could be a little less of an undertaking?

Waiting for these responses myself. I just started my Master's program and I am already dreading the practicum.

i guess it all depends on what your practicum entails. Do you have to develop a program and actually put it into action or is it just on paper? Can you utilize existing program and tailor them to fit the needs of your community? I'm a long way off from my "capstone" for my masters, but my professor from my research methods class MAY have set me up with a good starting point. Perhaps there is something in some of the work you've already done to use as a base.

I don't have any great ideas for you but I am really curious about the program at Aspen University - it looks great - just wondering how you are liking it and is it 100% online?

Just wanted to see how your practicum is going/went?
