Nursing market in Mass

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi, coming from CT planning one day to move to Mass. Working on my RN degeee via associates route. The COL, college, and taxes are less in Mass than CT. Pay doesn't seem to deviate from the $28-$30 starting salary for nurse's in CT.

Curious how the market is in Mass.? Know probably only 3 or 4 hospitals left in the state of CT only hire nurse's with a BSN. Don't mind if I work out of a hospital as a nurse go where the market is. Currently work as a mental health counselor at Yale. Hoping to work for the prison system or mental heakth services as a nurse for Mass be idwal. Or LTC/Nursing Homes work closely with the geriatric population.

Curious is there a market for nurse's in Mass. with an Associates of Nursing.

Appreciate the feedback.

Hello,

If you are coming to Massachusetts looking for greener pastures, think again. Most, if not all, hospitals in the area require a BSN. The new grad market in the Boston area is also one of the toughest in the country. Unless you have connections up here with hiring managers, I would research and see which states would be willing to hire someone without a BSN. Plenty of states out there that are cheaper than Massachusetts, trust me!

knlake is right, MA is a tough market. Almost all hospitals are now requiring new grads to have BSN and experienced RNs without BSN are also having a hard time unless they know somebody. Many other states will be more willing to welcome a non BSN prepared new grad.

Will eventually look into NH or Maine I guess. Really don't want to leave New England rather work as a nurse after completion of my associates towards a Master's in Nursing.

Appreciate the feedback.

I have an associates as a new grad and got hired at a psych facility in mass, my other associates friends work in nursing homes or ltacs that are in western ma.. very competitive over here! Best of luck :)
