Maryville 2014 WEC

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

I have applied to the weekend and evening college at Maryville for Fall 2014. I am hoping to meet other prospective candidates so we can talk, get to know each other and support each other through this journey.

If anyone is also planning to attend I would love to hear from you!

Thanks!!

Oh great. Well you better tell us too so we're prepared....

Well I can't remember everything.. think I've blocked it out. I know that anything below a 78% is failing. The course work load is massive.

There will be an orientation for those that have been accepted and wait listed and they go into more detail then but that was also scary.

Hey All! I started Maryville's WEC Nursing Program Fall 2013 and I love it!! I am not gonna lie, it is the hardest thing I have ever done. This semester I am in class 3 nights per week but I do not have a clinical. However, I do have demonstrations almost every weekend. Yes, you are told that if you don't pass your demos, dosage calcs, etc that you will fail but we are also given 3 attempts to do so and each instructor takes the time to teach you the right way to do a skill if you fail it. Maryville gives you tons of resources to help you through this including tips on test taking, studying, time management, etc. I clock 20-30 hours/week studying outside of class also and don't always get all of the required reading done. But, it is so interesting that I actually look forward to when I can study. If this is something you really want to pursue, just keep in mind that you will not have a life other than your day job and Nursing school. I'm lucky that I get to stay home with my babies during the day, but I only see my husband as he's coming home from work and I'm leaving to go study. It's a huge commitment but I know it will be well worth it in the end. good luck!

Thank you for your reply Srowlett!! Reading what you wrote does make me very nervous though. Do you think it is possible to pass this program as a single mom of 2, working full time during the day?? My understanding was that class was 2 night a week with clinical every other weekend, are you on campus more frequently than that?? I did know that there is one semester without clinicals but I thought the 3rd class was then on a weekend. What hospitals do you do your clincals at?? Sorry for all the questions, your the first person I have talked to who is in the program and I want to know as much as possible!!

I know my friend was at St Mary's last semester . We also go to Mercy, Mo Bap, St Lukes and other hospitals . When we get to community nursing and adult health we could go to nursing homes and clinics.

My friend went Tuesday and Thursday evenings for classes and the classes could last until 11 pm some nights if need be. Her clinicals were on alternating Sundays .

This semester she goes Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The labs or classes can start as early as 4:30pm. I have a friend that works full time and goes to Maryville and she has two children. She says that it's do-able. You just have to be very organized.

Anyone gotten their letters yet?!

Not yet. And I'm starting to get REALLY anxious to get it!!!

I know!! Every time the mail comes I keep thinking it'll be in it but it's not! Come on already!!

Still no letters!!!! I am getting more and more impatient as the days go on!! Anyone hear anything yet??

Nothing here... They're killing me!!!

My advisor just called and I've been ACCEPTED!!!!!!!! They said they just made decisions and didn't want to make us wait for our letters!! The letters are still coming but may be another 2 weeks. He said I was only the 2nd person he had called. I hope to hear from everyone here that they got in!!!!!
